Duties of ASI

• The purpose of an ASI is to carry out the orders of sub-inspectors or higher-ranking police officers
• The ASI plays an important role in maintaining law and order
• ASI is also in charge of Police Outposts (also known as “phari”) and Investigation Centers

How to become ASI? 

In India, just like any other position in the police force, an exam is required. To become an ASI, a person must pass an exam administered by the Staff Selection Commission. Let’s take a look at each part of the exam.

Eligibility for ASI exam

There are some eligibility requirements for becoming an assistant sub-inspector.

• A candidate’s age should be between 20 and 25, with a 5-year relaxation for SC/ST and a 3-year relaxation for OBC
• A Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university or equivalent with a minimum of 50% marks is required
• Candidates must be an Indian citizen
• Candidates must be 170 cm tall and have a chest measurement of 80-85 cm

ASI Exam Pattern

The written exam consists of two papers worth 200 points each (100 Marks each).

Qualified candidates must also pass the written examination with at least 55 per cent marks and an interview in the Physical Endurance Test.

Its first stage consists of the SSC CPO Paper-1, followed by PET tests in stages 2 and 3.

The exam is an MCD-based test administered in both Hindi and English, with a quarter-point deduction for each incorrect answer.

Medical Test Requirements

Medical requirements needed to crack ASI are: 

• The candidate must meet the following minimum Distant Vision requirements: 6/6 for the better eye and 6/9 for the worse
• Candidates should not have any of the following disabilities: knock knee, flat foot, squint in the eyes, and so on
• Any visual correction standard, including glasses, should not be used on the eyes

Paper Pattern 

Paper 1 lasts 2 hours and consists of 50 questions in general reasoning, general awareness, quantitative aptitude, and English.

Paper 2 has a duration of 2 hours and 200 questions, with a negative marking of 0.25 marks.

Syllabus of ASI

English

The exam covers vocabulary, spelling, grammar, reading comprehension, synonyms, sentence correction, phrases, and other topics.

Quantitative aptitude

The questions are designed to assess the candidate’s numerical sense. The exam covers chapters such as percentages, ratios and proportions, trigonometry, angles, circles, etc.

For reasoning 

Both verbal and nonverbal reasoning are tested in the exam to determine a candidate’s mental capacity. Venn diagrams, coding and decoding, critical thinking, space orientation, and other topics are covered in the exam.

General awareness 

The main topics covered in general awareness include current events, culture, geography, general politics, the Indian constitution, etc.
