Kerala At A Glance: Gods Own Country

Kerala- God’s own country is widely known for its abundant natural sceneries and monuments. Also, a wide range of religious monuments is present. With the highest literacy rate in the country, the state still lags in technical evolution.

Kerala formerly known as Travancore-Kochi  was the princely state of Southwestern India. The state of Kerala was formed in 1956 from different states and districts on the south coast. Kerala came to be known as an independent state when it was segregated from the prior state of Travancore-Cochin,  and the Kasaragod taluk of South Kannad District of Madras State. 

Kerala holds numerous names given to it at various phases during its ruling period. Some of the old names of Kerala given by the British merchants and the East India Company during their trade circles was Malabar. 

Some denote a geographical derivation of the name of this place. It is believed that Kerala got its name from the word “KERA” which means coconut. Due to an abundance of the presence of the coconut tree in this region, it has been named as such. 

There exists a lot of religious, and cultural history of Kerala that derives its present name. 

God’s Own Country

Kerala is always referred to as God’s own country. This term has a mythological belief that states that- Lord Parshuram, a manifestation of Lord Vishnu threw his axe into the vast sea to develop land for his followers to reside peacefully. And that is how the state of Kerala was born from the god itself. Getting birth from the god itself is the reason why Kerala is known as and called as God’s own country. 

Kerala is a land where its beauty lies in the lap of nature. All over the state is surrounded by gorgeous and exotic beaches, has numerous breath-taking hill stations, enthralling waterfalls, stunning lagoons, meandering rivers and Amazing natural scenarios. It is heaven on earth. The natural beauty of Kerala gives a wholesome experience of peace and quietude. People go on vacations to these places to get a period free from stress and all the attachments and connections of this materialistic world. 

Population and Advancement

With a mass population of over 34 million people, Kerala stands as one of the most advanced states in India. With a society that has its culture and tradition-bound tightly with their lives, there exists an advancement in the basic sectors of life. The people of Kerala live their life not just in a basic manner, they actually know and understand how to live their life. 

Keralites have the best eminence of life. They have exposure to excellent medical and educational facilities. Kerala recorded as having the highest literacy rate among the different other states of India. There’s an equalization in educational scale that is seen to be existing in KERALA, which the other states have not been able to achieve yet. 

Lifestyle and Health

The lifestyle of the people of the state is clearly visible in the physique of the Keralites. Their way of living is a combinatory example of how to live a life by enjoying it. The healthy lifestyle of the people is what makes their life expectancy longer. And as compared to the rest Indian subcontinent people of Kerala have a higher life expectancy. 

Tourism and Travel

The whole geographical location is filled with different religious institutes like churches, mosques, temples, gurudwaras, etc. Being ruled under a communist political regime, it is one of the most stable states with a minimal number of cases being reported against religious intolerance. Every religion has an equal space and respect for each other’s existence makes it a peaceful place to live in. People of this region abide by the rules and laws as set by the government. This makes the process of political existence and governance execute and run smoothly in the state. 

Although Kerala is a hub of tourist places and amazing natural beauties, the beauty of the state remained unseen and unnoticed until the Kerala government launched its first travel and tourism campaigns. Having adopted the tagline as “God’s own country”- which afterwards became a worldwide tag that received much love and acceptance. Kerala has become a popular destination not only for foreigners but also the domestic tourists. The ancient monuments, the nature, have been the best showstoppers and the ones most looked for by the tourists. 

Not only do the beaches, mountains, monuments, etc. attract the tourists, it’s the facilities, the nature of the people of Kerala, and their guest treatment is what make a person visit, and again revisit this place. 

The tourism body of the state works on an agenda that works in hand whilst promoting the tourism of the state. They aim at promoting ecologically sustained tourism whose main focus is on the local culture, wilderness adventures, volunteering and personal progress of the local population. A balance tends to be maintained between following traditional tourism along with taking care of the natural environment. Enhancement and integrity of culture and people are what the governmental body focuses upon. 

Conclusion

The god’s own country is made by its own people; a name that is justified by the people that inherit that place. Kerala has become an inspiration in terms of tourism, culture, human values and ethics. Kerala has been stable in all its aspects. A mini-India inside India, where cultural differences find no boundaries, where Muslims celebrate Holi and Christians Eid. A diversity among diversities. Kerala has proved to be the real heaven on earth.
