Chattisgarh was formed as a state on 1 November 2000 as a part of the Madhya Pradesh Reorganization Act, 2000. Ajit Jogi was the first Chattisgarh chief minister of the Indian National Congress.
In 2003 Raman Singh was appointed as the CM of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He served three consecutive five-year terms.
