An award is described in three aspects:
- who is being given
- what
- Who is giving, all of this varies as per the purpose?
The one who receives the Award is generally a single person, a student or an athlete, or representative of an organisation, country, or sports team. Awards sometimes can also be an item of decoration, a symbol that is suitable for wearing, like a badge, medal, or rosette. It also can be a diploma, trophy, certificate, or belt. Awards sometimes are also accompanied by objects of direct value like prize money and scholarships.
There is an award called Honourable Mention, specifically in education. This does not confer any higher standing for the one receiving this Award but is worth mentioning.
Different Types of Awards
There are various types of awards that are currently existing in the country. At the moment, the Government of India has introduced prestigious awards that are scattered in almost the spectrum of curriculum. Be it in the entertainment industry or science or sports, and there’s an award for all. Below mentioned are a few of such awards that can be considered as varied and highly prestigious –
INSPIRE Awards
‘Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE). This is one of the schemes of the flagship department of Science and Technology, the Government of India. This Award is executed by DST with National Innovation Foundation – India (N.I.F.)
which is an autonomous body of DST to motivate students of age group 10 years – 15years (classes 6 – 10).
The main purpose of this scheme is to target original innovations rooted in science and social applications to enhance a culture of creativity and innovation in school children.
INSPIRE Award hence is an initiative taken by the government to enrich the young creative minds of our country. Inspire Award also motivates the schools to take part in this competition which allows the students to think outside their regular curriculum.
National Award 2021
The National Award 2021 is the 67th National Film Awards which was announced in a press meet on the 22nd of March 2021. This Award is held to honour the best Indian films certified from the 1st of January to the 31st of December. The Directorate of Film Festivals presents the National Award to honour the best performances in Indian Cinema. The Directorate of Film Festivals invites online entries. The certified Feature and Non-Feature Films by the Central Board of Film Certification from 1st January to 31st December were considered eligible. In National Awards, entries for dubbed, revised, or copied versions of films or translation, annotated works, or edited works were not considered eligible for the national awards.
Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award
The official name for Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award is now renamed as Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award. Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award is the highest sporting honour in the country. Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award was renamed by Prime Minister Modi as respecting the sentiments of the citizens and also honouring the great athlete Major Dhyan Chand. This Award was instituted in 1991 – 1992. The very first recipient of this Award is Viswanathan Anand, the chess legend. The now renamed Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award comes with a cash prize of Rs.25 lakhs.
Filmfare Awards 2021
The ceremony of Filmfare awards is one of the major film events in India. A set of awards that honours technical as well as artistic excellence in the Hindi film industry of India is the Filmfare Awards. The Filmfare award was referred to as the Hindi film industries equal to that of the Academy Awards of the United States. This lasted up to the mid-1990s as, by then, several other awards had developed in the film society. This, in return, resulted in poor viewership since the 2000s. In addition to the flagship, Filmfare also has other variants in other Indian film communities. For example, Filmfare Awards in the South for South Indian Cinema, Filmfare Marathi Awards for Marathi movies, Filmfare for eastern movies.
