Dance is the oldest form of art with a strong impulse that is channelled with skilful performers into something intensive and exclusive. The concepts of art and dance are skillfully choreographed and practised professionally. Dance is not just beautiful to watch but also helps the body to keep fit. It helps release negativity and bring positivity. The movements used in dance forms are aesthetic and often symbolic. There is also a lovely variety of dances that highlight the cultural diversity of different regions and religions. It’s a tremendous form of cultural art. In India, we still get to see some dancing styles that are the oldest dances in history. 

Background of the dance:

The archaeological evidence enumerates that the early dance includes a 9,000-year-old painting in India. Before the invention of written languages of dance, it depicts dancing figures with the oral and performance methods of passing formations. It has been found in the books written by Plato, Aristotle, and Lucian in early history. Since different dances have changed and merged over the years, the types of dances in the world are, 

  • Ballet

Ballet dance was developed during the time of the Italian Renaissance and was choreographed with classical music. The ballet productions vary in elaborate costumes and staging, using minimal costuming and a bare stage. It is highly practised in a technical form that subgenres with classic, romantic and neoclassical. Particular Floors have developed a range of specialist ballet dance floors providing the prevention from injury while allowing the proper fluid movements. 

  • Ballroom dance

Ballroom dance is a type of partner dance that originated at the end of the 16th century in France. The ballroom dance is categorized into a waltz, tango and foxtrot, pasodoble, bolero and samba. The ballroom floors are required with versatile floors for getting the proper flow of dancing. 

  • Contemporary dance

This kind of dance form is the oldest dance in history that was developed during the mid-twentieth century. It is one of the dance forms that has been studied professionally. The dance is dealt with strong torso and legwork that contracts and releases with the unpredictable change in the speed and rhythm. Some contemporary dancers require a shock-absorbing surface to protect the feet, legs and ankles from rapid movement. 

  • Hip-Hop

Hip-Hop refers to a range of street dances that developed in the range of street dances with music. It is also known as one of the best styles of dance that started in early 1970. These dance forms are from New York and California that evolved with Funk and broken beats. The hip hop styles include breaking, locking and popping in outdoor spaces. In addition, there has been a competitive dance style that occurs improvisational with dance crews. 

  • Jazz

Jazz dancing was established in the 17th century in African traditions. It was during the time when enslaved people traveling to America via the Atlantic brought with them and continued the dancing traditions in Brazil. Jazz is improvised with dramatic body movements, and soon it developed into an African American vernacular dance style. There are some popular kinds of jazz dances like Lindy Hop, Shimmy and Charleston, etc. 

  • Tap dance

Tap dancing is a percussive dance that is characterized by the tap of shoes hitting the floor. To accentuate the good sound, tap dancers often wear metal taps on the heel and toe of their shoes. The part of musical theatre, tap dancing, focuses on the choreography and formations with more than one tap dance. The resonance created from the tap dance sounds attractive, and the style is creative enough. It is also considered one of the best styles of dance and ranges in flamenco, rhythm, classical, Broadway and postmodern tap. This unique characteristic of tap dancing requires a specialist of tap dancing for optimal performance.

  • Folk dance

Folk dancing is the most celebrated and one of the best styles of dance in the world. It concerns different cultures and religions that portray emotion and stories about historical events. There are well-known types of folk-dance forms like Kalbelia (India), Hula (Hawaii), and Samba (Brazil). In South Korea, folk dance is involved with the victories in war, farming, music and religion. Commonly folk dances are held in public where numerous people participate and enhance with cultural music. 

Dance is an excellent medium for art:

The types of dances in the world are associated with music, and the minds get free through the medium of dance. Learning different dance forms helps expand the taste beyond art and a broader sense of culture and recreation; with the flow of music, the movements that are created help in interacting the body with the music. There are dance forms that define the signature step, such as disco and other forms. 

Conclusion:

This dance has evolved the true sense of art. Even in the past years, dance has been the only medium of entertainment. It was not valued as much as other performing arts and has not been recognized very well by society. But now dance is categorized as a form of art and has helped people to encourage and delegate about dance in a proper way.
