The 2011 Census of India, or the 15th Indian Census, was a comprehensive survey of all buildings, including house listings and population counts. The Unique Identity Authority of India will use the NPR data acquired in this census to provide a 12-digit unique identity number to each and every one of India’s registered residents. On March 31, 2011, India’s population reached 1.21 billion, an increase of 17.70 per cent over the last decade. About Uttarakhand
On November 9, 2000, the 27th state of the Republic of India, Uttarakhand, was established out of Uttar Pradesh. With a total area of 53,483 square kilometres, the Indian state of Uttarakhand is one of the largest. It is presently 189 per square kilometre in Uttarakhand, which is lower than the national average density of 382 per square kilometre. Uttarakhand Population – Census 2011
There has been a gain of 19.17 per cent in the population of Uttarakhand during the past decade, according to the 2011 Indian Census. 0.84 per cent of India’s population is fed by Uttarakhand.
There are now 10,116,752 people living in Uttarakhand, up from 8,893,349 in Census 2001, when there were 43,25,924 males and 41,63,425 females. This represents a 5% increase in males and a 4% increase in females. According to the 2011 census, most people live in Uttarakhand’s Haridwar district, out of the state’s 13 districts.

Uttarakhand Working Population – Census 2011
In Uttarakhand, 3,872,275 people were working out of a total population of 3,872,275. 74.1 percent of employees identify their jobs as Main Work (Employment or Earning for More Than 6 Months), while 25.9% describe their jobs as Marginal Work (Paying for Less Than 6 Months). Cultivators (owners or co-owners) accounted for 1,045,674 of the 3,872,275 employees in Main Work, while agricultural labourers accounted for 247,256.

Uttarakhand’s districts have a wide range of populations. Four of the state’s 13 districts, Dehradun, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, and Nainital, are home to 61.5 per cent of the state’s total population. A total of 81 per cent of the population lives in the three districts of Tehri Garhwal, Pauri Garhwal, and Almora. Using this data, we can plainly see that the population density in the mid and lower foothills is significantly greater than in the other six high-hill zones.

Uttarakhand Urban/Rural Population – Census 2011
Uttarakhand is mostly a rural state, with 16,826 rural communities, 12,699 (81%) of which have populations of fewer than 500 people. More than 75-85% of rural communities in most districts have a population of fewer than 500 people. Only 17% of rural communities had a population of 500 in 1999, while villages with a population of 2000 or more are extremely unusual (2.7%). With such a large number of small and scattered hamlets, mostly due to difficult geographical conditions, service delivery in Uttarakhand is a serious issue. If urbanisation were to define development, then Uttarkashi can be said to be the most developed district in Uttarakhand.
