Disaster Management

Organisation and management of resources and responsibilities for dealing with all humanitarian aspects of emergencies, in particular, preparedness, response and recovery in order to lessen impact of disaster is known as disaster management. Disaster management aims to reduce or avoid the potential losses from hazards, assure prompt and appropriate assistance to victims of disaster and achieve rapid and effective recovery. There are two types of disasters: natural disasters or man-made disasters. A natural disaster might be caused by earthquake, cyclones, droughts, avalanches, floods, volcanic eruptions, landslides and hurricanes etc. A manmade disasters are like nuclear disaster, use of chemical and biological weapons, oil spills and global warming etc. The national disaster management agency is the apex body of disaster management in India.
