A figure or ratio that is stated as a fraction of 100 is referred to as a percentage in mathematics. The method for finding the quantity or proportion of anything expressed as a percentage of 100 is called the percentage formula. The term “%” may also be simplified to imply “per hundred.” The percentage formula is used to represent a number that falls between 0 and 1, inclusive. The other way to understand it is as a number that is written as a fraction of 100. Solved Examples
Q1. Express ⅘ as a percentage.
⅘ = (4 × 20 ⁄ 5 × 20)
= (80 ⁄ 100)
= 80%
Q2. One classroom has a total of 150 kids enrolled. There are 75 females present out of the total. Determine the proportion of female students in the group.
Total students in the class = 150
Girls in class = 75
% of girls = (75 ⁄ 150) × 100 = (7500 ⁄ 150) = 50%
