Network Information Centre (NIC) is the nodal agency for managing domain names in India. It is an intermediary between Domain Name Registrar and End Users or Registrants.

About NIC:

The National Internet Exchange of India (NIC) is a neutral, not-for-profit, non-governmental organisation established in 2002 and is responsible for the country’s domain name system (DNS).

It has two main functions:

  • The nodal agency for managing top-level domains (TLDs) in India.
  • To provide a neutral forum where all stakeholders can meet to discuss issues related to Internet governance in the country.

Nic. in is the official domain name registry in India. Nic registers the domain names. It is managed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC). The Nic. in domain registration is free of cost and open to everyone without any restriction on the type of address or location.

NIC manages domains. It’s a Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology department founded in 1988. (MeitY). The National Informatics Centre (NIC) was the first .in Registrar.

NIC India is the nodal agency for managing domain names in India under NIRDA (National Internet Registry Delegation of Authority).
