Full Form of NET

NET stands for National Eligibility Test. Postgraduates interested in pursuing a PhD or pursuing a career as a teacher in India must take the National Eligibility Test. The test measures the general knowledge, mathematical skills and analytical ability of students who are seeking admission into undergraduate courses in engineering and technology, medical sciences, management and humanities.

Understanding NET

NET or National Eligibility Test is a national level examination conducted by the National Educational Testing Bureau (NETB) an autonomous body of the University Grants Commission. It is held to determine if Indian nationals are eligible for the Assistant Professorship. only or Junior Research Fellowship & Eligibility for Assistant Professor Both in Indian universities and colleges.

The NET exam was introduced in the year 1984. Till now, it has been conducted 26 times. The NET exam is conducted twice a year, in the months of June and December. It is a computer-based test (CBT) that consists of two papers: Paper I and Paper-II.

Paper 1 is for candidates seeking Junior Research Fellowship only while Paper II is for candidates seeking both Junior Research Fellowship and eligibility for Assistant Professor.

History of NET National

Eligibility Test The National Eligibility Test (NET) is a national level examination conducted by UGC. It was first conducted in November 1989, to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for the posts of Assistant Professor or Lecturer in universities and colleges. The test is conducted in three stages- Paper I, Paper-II and the Interview. NET is held twice a year, usually in the months of June and December. National Eligibility Test Syllabus National Eligibility Test Paper I is common for all candidates. It contains 60 objective type questions, each carrying two marks. Paper-II contains 50 objective type questions, each carrying two marks. The Interview will carry 100 marks.

Net Question Paper

NET is an objective type test with multiple-choice questions. There is no negative marking for wrong answers in NET. Candidates who qualify for the National Eligibility Test are eligible to apply for the post of Assistant Professor or Junior Research Fellow in Indian universities and colleges.

The National Eligibility Test is conducted in 84 subjects at 91 selected NET Examination Cities spread across the country.

NET Syllabus

The syllabus for National Eligibility Test differs from subject to subject. It covers topics taught at the graduate and postgraduate levels. The main aim of NET is to test the teaching and research abilities of the candidates.

NET Preparation

Candidates appearing for National Eligibility Test should prepare themselves well for the exam. The best way to prepare for NET is by practising mock tests and previous year’s question papers. Objectives of NET

NET has the following objectives:

– To determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for the post of Assistant Professor or equivalent in universities and colleges across India.

– To assess the teaching and research capabilities of the candidates.

NET is conducted in three phases: Paper I, Paper-II, and Interview.

Net Result Rates

National Eligibility Test (NET) is the qualifying examination for the selection of Indian nationals for the posts of Assistant Professor or Lecturer in universities and colleges in India.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts NET every year in December and June sessions. The test is conducted for 90 minutes duration with three sections: General Aptitude, Subject Paper I and Subject Paper-II.

The NET score is valid for a period of three years from the date of declaration of the result. The candidates who qualify NET are eligible to apply for the post of Assistant Professor or Lecturer in Indian universities and colleges.

NET is also known as UGC NET or CBT (Computer-Based Test).
