Full Form of ICSE

ICSE stands for Indian Certificate of Secondary Education. ICSE board was established in 1986 in India that recommended new education policies. Indian Certificate of Secondary Education is a private board that conducts examinations on General Courses. This is an English level-based curriculum that offers students to prepare for competitive exams of NIIT, AIEEE, BTEC, AIIMS and JIMPER. Subjects are divided into 4 main categories Group 1 is compulsory. Students have to choose 6 subjects that are divided into 3 groups. ICSE results are calculated based on the best five and the English language is compulsory.

Advantages of ICSE Board

The main advantage of the ICSE board is that it covers all subjects that include great depth about the topic. ICSE provides depth knowledge about the topic and helps students to properly understand the subjects. ICSE board provides a wide range of options while choosing subjects and focuses on English. Emphasis on English fluency helps students to become more confident while talking and giving presentations in English rather than other students.  ICSE Marking Scheme

• Marking scheme is ICSE board uses percentages instead of Grades that helps students to properly evaluate their performances in every subject. Marks distribution is dependent on external and internal examinations.
• This distribution helps students to prepare their studies according to the mark distribution. For group 1 compulsory subjects such as English, second languages and history and civics 80% marks depend on external examination and 20% marks depend on Internal Examination.
• For Group 2 subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Economics, Biology, Modern foreign languages, and Environmental sciences 80% marks depend on External Exams and 20% marks depend on Internal Examination.
• Group 3 includes subjects such as Computer applications, home science, Art, Fashion designing, Mass media, and Communication. 50% of marks depend on External Exams and 50% of marks depend on Internal Exams.
• This unique marking scheme of ICSE helps students to focus more on external exams as their 80% marks depend on those exams.

Subjects in ICSE

• Subjects in the ICSE board are divided into three major parts. Group 1 is a compulsory subject that includes the first language, is English, the second language might be anything based on the region and culture of students such as Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Maithili, Odia, Sanskrit, or any other Indian Language.
• History/Civil science and social science are compulsory subjects of Group 1.
• Students have to choose any two or three subjects from Group 2 that includes Mathematics, Science, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Economics, Environmental science, Commercial students, accounting, economics, business studies, and Modern Foreign Languages.
• From Group 3 Students have to choose only 1 subject that includes Art and craft, Computer Application, Dance, Music, Drama, Physical Education, Mass media and Communication, and Environmental applications.
• Students have to choose six topics overall 2-3 from Group 1 where the First language is compulsory, 2-3 from Group 2, and 1 subject from Group 3. Results of ICSE depend on the best five subjects and the sixth subject with less number automatically eliminated from result cards, which helps students to choose their future stream and their expertise.
• The First language is not counted as the best five; it is compulsory if a student obtains fewer marks in English, and a second less marked subject will be counted as the sixth subject.
