Report and Article Writing

Articles and reports are written for magazines and newspapers in the third person. Report writing is a factual description of events. Article writing is based on personal views.

Report writing gives a detailed account of any particular event or, gives a description of any mishap or incident. It is meant to be read by the general masses. Article writing, on the other hand, is based on the personal opinions and views of an individual on any particular topic. The topics for article writing can vary from general topics related to the environment like global warming, and the benefits of trees, or specific topics like anxiety before exams, the younger generation, information technology and more. Article writing and Report writing require easy, comprehensible language along with some catchy words and ideas. 

Report Writing 

This form of writing not only evaluates incidents and issues but also factually describes the events that take place. The first type of report writing is the report for the school magazines wherein the functions of school activities are described. The format consists of a suitable heading, the name of the one who writes the report, that is, the reporter, along with the details of the entire event or function from the beginning till the end. 

The other type of report writing is associated with the newspapers. Here, the mishaps, accidents, issues, or any crime are described. The details of the incident include the answers to the questions such as where, when, how, and what happened, along with the consequences of the incident. Eyewitnesses and their reactions are also noted down. It should include vivid descriptions and only relevant details written briefly. Personal comments on such events should be highly avoided. The vocabulary used in report writing should be comprehensive and remarkable. 

Tips and Examples of Report Writing 

For writing a report based on an event or a function, details about the nature of the event, occasion, date, time, place, chief guest and his message, inauguration, cultural programs, the vote of thanks, and a few comments on the quality of performances should be given. Points regarding competitions and workshops can follow, including any other additional information. 

For accidental reports, answers to the questions of ‘what’, ‘when’, ‘where’, and ‘how’ should be given along with the names of the people involved. Details about the vehicles, loss of property and life, rescue operations, and inquiry operations should be included. In the end, a warning should be given along with recommendations to improve the indifferent behaviour. The detailed statements of the eyewitnesses should also be included. The same format can be followed for robberies, disease outbreaks, and more. Always remember to write the details in chronological, organised order. 

Article Writing 

Article writing is a form of writing based exclusively on general facts and the personal opinions of the writer. It is meant to make the concerned audience aware and informed about a particular topic. In this form of writing, quotations and facts can be added to enhance their quality. It should always begin with a creative heading, followed by a line of reference which includes the name of the writer. 

The body of the article should be divided into three paragraphs. The first paragraph is supposed to be the introduction to the topic. The second paragraph should have the details, facts, and basic issues. The third paragraph contains the opinions or any possible solutions. The article can include a good quotation either at the beginning or at the end. The language used should be straightforward and appealing to the reader. Articles can either be written for magazines or for newspapers. The word limit should be around 150-200, and it should be in the third person. 

Tips for Different Topics of Article Writing

The topics for article writing can be varied. Some articles are based on arguments, while the others are descriptive. The articles should be written, keeping in mind the level of the targeted audience. The facts, opinions, merits, demerits, consequences, causes, and quotations should always be present in the article to make it more appealing and creative. The writers should always try their best to present the collected information and ideas in an organised and systematic form. 

Always remember to write your articles without any grammatical errors, with correct punctuation, and use a wide vocabulary as these get published and are read by different audiences. The different topics for article writing can be -saving water, reducing pollution, health and fitness, anxiety issues, promotion of tourism, teenage problems and more.
