Features of Business Services

Involvement

Participation of the customer to experience and know the services provided by the company is very important. As per their needs and convenience, a customer gets the services altered to make any additional changes on the company’s approval to its given services.

Inventory

A service is a non-physical activity granted to the employees of the company. Unlike the salary provided to the employees, a service cannot be stored or collected for future use. It needs to be used or acted on when granted to the person.

For example: A bus ticket can be collected and stored, but the bus journey cannot be stored for future use; it can only be experienced.

Inseparable

Another important characteristic of business services is the simultaneously occurring activities of being consumed and being produced (production and consumption) being performed. This makes the services seem like they are inseparable.

For example: Banking clerks are today being replaced by ATMs for cash withdrawals.

Non-Physical Ability

A service is non-physical; it cannot be touched. An important feature of this ability is that this offer can often not be determined before consumption and, thus, purchase. It is essential for the service-providing people to create a desirable service for all their customers.

Inconsistent

Since nothing is constant, even standard products are not consistent. There is a need for new services each time depending on different types of customers who have different choices, wants, needs, and expectations.

Categories of a Business Service
