Business Services- Types

All intangible services that are required for the functioning of businesses are called business services. IT, banking, insurance, and transportation are different business services.

Business Services

Any intangible service that assists businesses and is utilised by organisations is known as a business service. The absence of a tangible commodity is the primary feature of a business service. These services are essential for the smooth functioning of numerous industries.

The list of types of business services is quite extensive. Industries like IT, banking, and insurance are renowned for their business services. These services act as the backbone of almost every business. Types of business services class 11 deals with many such services in detail.

Characteristics of Business Services

After meeting specific criteria and characteristics, any service is classified under the business service category. The most important feature is that these services should be essential for the functioning of other organisations. Some other crucial characteristics of all types of business services are:

  • Intangibility – Business services are intangible, i.e., they cannot be touched and are experiential.
  • Inconsistency – There is a lack of consistency in business services. The experience of one business may differ from that of another. The same business may also have different understanding of the same service on separate occasions.
  • Inseparability – In the case of tangible products, such as goods, production and consumption are separate processes. A product produced today can be consumed at a later day. This is not the case with intangible services. Production and consumption are inseparable and take place simultaneously.
  • Inventory – No inventory is required for a business service. Products need not be stored for the future. These services are intangible and are consumed immediately upon production.
  • Involvement – The customer is an active participant in the service process and is involved in each step of the way. Whether opening a bank account or using the IT facilities provided by another firm, the customer is actively engaged in it all.

Types of Business Services

The list of types of business services is endless. Types of business services class 11 deals with many of them thoroughly. These businesses are all separate from each other but still have similar characteristics. Many of the different types of business services are listed below.

Banking

All businesses today depend on specialised business services, including financial services. Banking services are one of the essential services required by any company. Not only do banks provide an easy method of transaction, but they can also become a source of credit. Accepting payments, e-banking, taking checks, lending of funds, and providing a credit line are all services that are provided to any business by a bank.

Insurance

Businesses are always at risk. Whether it be the inception of a competition or the risk of losing money, companies must always be prepared. This also includes accidental damages. Thus, businesses get insurance to ensure that their interests are always protected. This helps protect them from unforeseen damage such as theft, accidents, fire, or even natural disasters. The different types of money services, especially insurance services, have become necessary not only as a business service but also as social and personal ones.

IT

The fast pace of technological advancement has left all businesses needing IT services. Just as in the case of banking, every industry today requires IT services to make sure their operations run smoothly. IT services are one of the most sought after business services. This also includes software services, an integral part of all electronic devices. All businesses frequently use software services across the world.

Transportation

The transportation of goods is vital for every goods company. Though the products transported are tangible, transportation is still considered intangible. With the boom in e-commerce, the vehicle has become a critical service.

Management Services

Many firms provide specialised management services to large organisations. This helps reduce the management burden on the company. These services are intangible and can range from hiring and training managers to run an organisation’s day-to-day management.

Media Services

Media is a huge source of engagement for companies. These services, such as public relations and advertising, have been used as a business service for decades. Media houses provide numerous benefits to organisations that help keep their sales up and their reputation positive.

Marketing Services

Unlike media services, marketing services include everything from promotion and placement to the branding and pricing of a product or service. Every company hires a marketing team, internally or externally, to help them meet their marketing service needs.

Legal Services

All organisations need to protect and safeguard their interests. This is why many large corporations commonly use legal services. Almost all big companies outsource legal services to ensure they do not get into any trouble with the law.

It is important to note that all of these services can be both business and personal services in nature. Banking, insurance, and legal services are services utilised directly by the customers and different organisations. Some of these services can also be found under the social service category, for example, transportation.
