Over the ages there has been a massive advancement in the fields of science and technology all over the world, contributing to major events in history. The notion of awareness, majorly a dependent quotient, is based on an individual’s knowledge about computers and their associated devices. This as well caters to the applications that are associated with computer devices. In this study, an extensive study is conducted with a focus on the aspect of scanners. The scanner has a long history that dates back to earlier times in the mid 20th century and it remained popular in use from then on. Gradually over the years, the device has developed by providing optimization results within a very nominal cost.

Overview of computer awareness

Awareness of computers is necessary as humans have evidenced immense changes and growth over consecutive years. Although computer awareness is a dependent factor and mostly depends on an individual’s knowledge, it should be understood that the advancement made is necessary. Awareness of computers majorly relates to its several parts, characteristics, application associated with the device, classification of computers, limitations, generations of computers and many more. However, in this study, the focus has been given primarily on gathering a brief knowledge about scanners.

A short note on scanners

A scanner is commonly known as an input device that captures magazine pages, texts, posters and photographic prints through computer software. Scanners are hand-held devices that help in scanning objects in both black-and-white and colour images. Scanners can be used for printing high-resolution printings that are commonly used for different purposes like education, work etc. High-resolution scanners are capable of assisting people with detailed and meticulous details for implementing them for proper purposes. Scanners are generally software-operated and come with features like resizing and modifying pictures and documents based on the purpose of the scanning.

Detailed features of a scanner

Scanners are typically characterised to recognize and outline optical characters in an image, paper, documents and many more things. It comes with a computer processor that helps it to recognize the type of documents successfully and provide a scan head by displaying them through output devices. Characteristically, scanners are capable of reading images and documents into a translated form that the computer understands. It further presents and produces the image or document in a usable form that the user understands clearly. Most importantly, scanners optically scan images, handwriting and printed texts and translate them into a digital image that can be studied by the user on purpose.

Types of scanners

Scanners are currently one of the most demanding objects in the world of technology that have major usages in the professional as well as the educational world. Based on the purpose of usage, scanners can be divided into different categories. Some of the common types of scanners are discussed below.

  • Flatbed scanner: These scanners are generally used in business applications as well as for personal purposes at home. This printer provides a CIS or CCD display based on the ling-censoring sensor and its images on glass.
  • Photo scanner: Characteristically, these printers specifically look for scanning images, old photographs and pictures and provide a quality digital replica of them through computer software.
  • Portable scanner: Portable scanners are generally very handy and connect through a USB port. These scanners are generally good at scanning documents.
  • Document scanner: This type of scanner is also called a sheetfed scanner, specially designed for scanning documents in pages.

Key advantages of scanners

Scanners are generally used in achieving and copying documents or images successfully for different purposes. One of the key advantages is its increased security and convenience facility. Further, they can be used to minimise the usage and storage of paper and reduce costs successfully. Scanners are also very environment-friendly that also add a sustainable angle to their usage in real-time.

Major disadvantages of scanners

Despite the frequent usage and many advantages, scanners can typically have a few disadvantages like their quality, maintenance and speed. First, scanner user’s witness issues in output quality that varies from brand to brand in its usage. Secondly, maintaining a scanner can be expensive and money consuming for daily usage.

Conclusion

In concluding the study, the focus has been given to delving into a brief knowledge about scanners. Moreover, in this study, we as well get to know about the different types of scanners and of their long history that dates back to the mood of 20the century. Gathering knowledge about scanners and several other devices that are associated with computer devices relates to the awareness of computers. However, the notion of awareness about computers mainly depends on the acknowledgement one has about computers and their success varies from one person to another. But it needs to be focused on as over the years mankind has evidenced massive changes in technology.
