A Study on the History of Cloud Computing

The evolution of cloud computing has emerged essentially from different technologies like “utility computing”, “virtualisation”, “parallel computing” and “grid computing” where present development is from Web2.

Cloud computing was stamped out in 1996 within an internal document that is compact. Cloud computing became popular in the early 1960s when Joseph Carl Robnett Licklider (J.C.R) invented it. The evolution of cloud computing has provided a significant path of connecting people by permitting sharing of communication and data on a worldwide scale. Mainly four types of cloud computing are known from the evolution of cloud computing such as “public clouds”, “hybrid clouds”, “multi-clouds” and “private clouds”. Multiple users are allowed to access cloud computing where different users might be from the same organisation and individuals will be provided with the authority to a certain field of data. The evolution of cloud computing has popularised the concept of virtualisation which helps in making the beneficial IT services utilise the resources that are conventionally bound to the hardware.

Evolution of cloud computing: Overview

The facts of cloud computing demonstrates that it is all about renting services of computing. “Evolution of cloud computing” is reflected in distinct sorts of technologies by utilising the software to create more efficient IT services. In the “Evolution of cloud computing”, three main stages are involved in the journey of transformation which includes “Network”, “Application” and “Security”. The current development of “cloud computing” has evolved from the technology of Web 2.0, which helps in catering to the application of the web that facilitates “user-centred design”, “interoperability” and “information sharing”. Cloud computing is regarded as the model for entailing the on-demand and convenient access of a network to a shared pool of the configurable resources of the network.

“Evolution of cloud computing” states that cloud computing is mentioned as the technology that puts the complete infrastructure of computing in both the software and hardware applications online. In the idea phase, the “evolution of cloud computing” was seen with the emergence of grid and utility computing but continued until the era of pre-internet. Pre-cloud phase is the next phase, which has been expanded from 1999 to 2006 where the internet was utilised as the mechanism to give the application as a service. Lastly comes the cloud phase where the “history of cloud computing” has experienced interesting facts that have been launched by global web organisations and leading computers.

Cloud computing and multiple users

Multiple users have access to similar data at a common time on a similar platform. In cloud computing, “multiple users are allowed” to access the different facts of internet services. The usage of cloud computing highlights sharing and storing of important information that are feasible and accessible anywhere at a certain point in time. The reason behind where “multiple users are allowed” is that the cloud can utilize a bundle of data where the information is placed and stored in a data centre which is located in a remote area. Multiple users gain the benefit of using cloud computing as it enables “speed to market” and “high security of data”.

Concept of Virtualisation

“Concept of virtualisation” states that it helps the users to create the most beneficial services of IT. The main objective of “virtualisation” is to continue the applications normally, which need several hardware units. Scalability on “Concept of virtualisation” mentioned that it permits the server administrator to contract and expand the server without adjusting the system of hardware. Virtualisation benefits are:

  • It helps in minimising the operating and capital costs.
  • It generally reduces or removes the downtime.
  • It helps in maximising efficiency, responsiveness, agility and productivity of IT.
  • It provides the benefit of having rapid provisioning of resources and applications.
  • It enables the users to take one machinery piece and create it to perform such as multiple pieces.

Conclusion

Cloud computing is regarded as anything that includes delivering the hosted services over the web. It is reflected from the history of cloud computing that the “evolution of cloud computing” undergoes mainly through phases including the “idea phase”, “pre-cloud stage” and “Cloud stage”. Cloud computing is the server networking that is interlinked by utilising the Internet where the concept of virtualisation is more prevalent. The main function of cloud computing is to share the software, resources and information. The Internet in recent times performs as the invisible cable that helps to connect everything. Cloud computing has evolved from multiple technological factors and developed the application and use with the change of time, which facilitates multiple users to access, the service.
