Effects and Implications of Emergency

Learn about how emergencies take effect and how they are implemented during the time of need for the country, financially and ethically both.

Emergency itself means there is a need to take care of things and if it is about national emergency at that time many analysis and calculations are taken into consideration then there is a requirement of the implications of national emergency. It is mostly to take away the country’s security and safety and to balance things up for the country. This is why there is always drastic change in the economy as well. Everyone is bound to follow the national emergency rule. Sometimes these emergencies are needed to balance the economy as well.

What is an emergency or national emergency?

National emergency can be decided by the President of India where there is security or territory part of India is threatened by the war or rebellions. If the Indian President has got all the proof and analysis related to expected danger then he will declare the emergency nationally. Since there is always some danger for any country but it is about balancing the safety if the investigation agency fails to find out the solution at that time after analysis is taken into consideration means if the situation can be worse for the country then the implications of national emergency is required.

Finance related emergency

As stated above in the article you can see that an emergency is not just a country’s physical safety but also the economic safety. There is a financial emergency which a state has to impose to control the market condition. This president will have to ask the State government to reduce the amount of salaries of government officials. Whoever is a government employee in that state will get a reduction in salary during the time of emergency. The effect of a financial emergency is that the president will ask the state government to reserve money bills so the parliament can take it into consideration.

Consequences of financial Emergency

The effects of financial emergencies  are not just on the state but can be all over the country as well. Here the Union of Government can give orders to any state related to financial matters. Till now in India there is no financial emergency imposed. But there can be chances when there is big inflation or economic downfall is coming from the particular state at that time till now other states are helping but there can be any time when the president can take action against any of the states. Here private sector people are more likely to be safe because they are not related to the government sector but once the president has asked for the implications of national emergency that financial emergency can be taken into consideration as well.

Incidents when emergency was declared

  1. During the Indo china war from 26th Oct 1962 to 10th Jan 1968 at that time India’s security was threatened by the external aggression.

  2. During the Indo Pakistan war from 3rd December 1971 to 21st March 1972.

  3. It was during the leadership of Indra Gandhi between 25th June 1975 to 21st March 1977 due political instability when the reason was given internal disturbance.

The Emergency 1975

During 1975 Indra Gandhi was the leader of Indian National Congress and she was appointed Prime Minister of the country. On 12th June 1975 the verdict was given by the Allahabad High Court convicting PM Indra Gandhi for malpractices and taking her all election post which led to the implications of national emergency . Indra Gandhi had already won Rae Bareli’s Lok Sabha election 1971 by defeating socialist leader Raj Narain who accused her for doing electoral malpractices and breaking the law of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. During that time Justice Sinha has taken all her election post holding power for 6 years.

The very next day Indra Gandhi declared that the impact of the Emergency 1975 was taken which had taken all the fundamental rights from the opposition and they all went to jail. Congress Government said they are harming the national security which can turn into war against Pakistan. During that time Sidhharta Shankar Roy supported her with the decision.

Conclusion

The implications of national emergency can be beneficial but many times the impact of the Emergency 1975 have put the doubt in one’s mind that it can be unfair to give all rights to the particular post. Yes there are chances of wrong doings but when there is less of a chance of being fair at that time imposing the national emergency can be harmful not just to the country but for the betterment of the country as well.
