KVIC Launching SPIN Scheme

In this article, we’ll discuss the Reasons behind the KVIC Launching the SPIN Scheme, salient features of the SPIN System, About the Kashi Pottery Cluster, and some of its facts.

The SPIN (Strengthening the Potential of India) scheme was recently introduced by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) to help potters become self-sufficient. Here we will discuss some of the salient features of the SPIN System, the Kashi Pottery Cluster, and some facts about the Kashi Pottery Cluster. The Khadi and Village Industries Commission Act of 1956 constituted this statutory organisation.  On September 17, 2021, the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) will start a novel SPIN scheme. The initiative intends to empower marginalised potters and foster self-sufficiency in the Indian pottery industry.

Introduction to KVIC

Before independence, Mahatma Gandhi oversaw the development of Khadi and Village Industries, entirely non-governmental enterprises. After independence, the Indian government was entrusted with incorporating the growth of Khadi and village industries into the overall structure of the Five Year Plans. As a result, the Indian government created the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), a statutory entity created by an Act of Parliament. This organisation was created in 1956 to promote and grow Khadi and Village Industries to help the rural economy. The Khadi and Village Industries initiative is largely responsible for creating job opportunities for rural craftspeople, particularly those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds.

Functions and features of KVIC

The KVIC’s main responsibilities are to plan, promote, organise, and assist in implementing programs to develop khadi and village industries.

It accomplishes this by

(a) Supplying funds to approved organisations.

(b) Providing proper training to the persons employed or seeking employment in Khadi and Village Industries, as well as supervisors and other functionaries;

(c) building material reserves.

(d) R&D in the Khadi and Village Industries sector.

(e) promotion of sale and marketing of Khadi and Village Industries products;

(f) Encouraging cooperative efforts among persons engaged in Khadi and Village Industries, and so on.

The Khadi and Village Industries Commission, an Apex Organisation, is working together to implement the Khadi and Village Industries Program in our country. State Khadi and Village Industries Boards operate in several states and Union Territories, and the Central Khadi and Village Industries Boards. Though state Khadi and Village Industries Boards have primary responsibility for implementing village industries programs, they require leadership and direction from federal and state governments to ensure the sector’s effective development.

Reasons for establishing the KVIC

The Indian government established the Khadi and Village Industries Commission as a national-level organisation (KVIC) to stress the importance of comparable organisations in states cooperating with the Central Organization. State Khadi and Village Industries Boards were established in all states and union territories. There are now 30 ‘State KVIBs’ operating across India. These Boards are primarily aiding the village industries program’s 13 implementing entities. State Khadi and Village Industries Boards are now implementing roughly 77% of the KVI Program in production.
