What is the need to launch the Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan Scheme?
The Government of India has launched the Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan Scheme to help migrant workers return home. The jobs will be created across 6 states, namely Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, and Odisha. This initiative will ensure financial assistance and livelihood opportunities for migrant workers who have been affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The scheme is expected to continue for 125 days. As of June 3rd, 2020, more than 2 lakh migrant workers have registered for this scheme by visiting the nearest Common Service Centre (CSC).
The Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan scheme is a 125-day job program in November. The government aims to employ 50 lakh migrant workers under this Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan Yojana.

Salient Features of the Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan Scheme
This initiative is targeted at 116 districts across six states: Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Odisha. The government has chosen these districts based on the migration of migrant workers.
The government of India will be providing incentives to employers for hiring returning migrants for at least 240 days a year. However, the employer will pay the remuneration only after completing a minimum of 15 days of work by the migrant worker. The total sum will be Rs 1,000 per month per person, and the maximum cap is up to Rs 3 lakh for three months per establishment as a part of this scheme.
Under this scheme, 125 days of the job will be provided, and 25 days of additional work will be done under it.
According to the government, in this scheme, 125 days of employment will be provided to the migrant workers in 6 months, and if necessary, additional 25 days of work can also be given.
