World Bankar STARS Program

The World Bank and the Department of School Education and Literacy under the Ministry of Education signed the STARS project on 28th January 2021. The STARS project in India is aimed at strengthening the education system and schools in our country.

“STARS” stands for Strengthening Teaching Learning and Results for States Program. The STARS Project in India was signed under the Ministry of Textiles by the Department of School Education and Literacy and the World Bank on 28th January 2021. It is currently working as a financial assistance agreement. The Strengthening Teaching Learning and Results for States Program (STARS) is a federally funded program that aims at improving the school education system in India. It was signed to improve the quality of education running in the six states of India- Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Odisha.

The Objective of The STARS Project

  • The World Bank STARS Program is an integral part of the Indian government’s education policy
  •  It aims at strengthening the education system of the country
  • It has a target to provide educational benefits to an approximate crowd of 250 million in the age bracket of 6 to 17 years from 1.5 million schools in these 6 states
  • Not only students but the STARS program in India will benefit 10 million teachers as well from all the six states
  • The STARS Project will mainly help in improving the education system, ways to learn, classroom instructions, the transition process from school to work, and the education governance management
  • It supports the Indian Government’s vision of “Education for All”

FUNDS REQUIRED FOR THE STARS PROJECT

  • Disturb project coasted for approximately 5718 crores Indian rupee
  • Out of 5718 crore rupees 500 million US dollars which is equal to about 3700 crores, the Indian rupee was provided as financial support by the World Bank
  •  This loan got approved by the International Bank for reconstruction and development also called IBRD
  • The IBRD is also known as the lending arm of the World bank
  • The maturity period for the loan amount of 500 million US dollars is 17.5 years with a grace period of 5 years
