Post – Matric Scholarship Scheme

The scholarships are solely available to Indian citizens. With exceptions, these scholarships shall be awarded for the study of all recognised post-matriculation or post-secondary courses at recognised institutions.

The Scheme gives financial aid to Scheduled Caste students studying at the post-matriculation or post-secondary level in order to help them complete their studies. 

These scholarships are exclusively available for study in India, and they are offered by the government of the state or union territory to which the candidate genuinely belongs, i.e. where he or she is permanently settled. Scholarships will be awarded to students whose parents’ or guardians’ total annual income does not exceed Rs. 2,50,000/-.

Only candidates who are members of Scheduled Castes as defined in relation to the State/Union Territory to which the applicant actually belongs, i.e. where he or she is permanently settled, and who have passed the Matriculation or Higher Secondary or any higher examination of a recognised University or Board of Secondary Education will be considered.

This system prohibits a scholarship recipient from holding any other scholarship or stipend.

What is the new 15 Point Programme for Welfare?

The Prime Minister’s New 15-Point Programme for Minorities was launched by the Indian government in response to reports by committees such as the Sachar Committee Report, which found that minorities, particularly Muslims, in the country were often in worse socio-economic and political conditions than communities such as the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, who have been oppressed for millennia through the cascade system (also referred to as the varna system). It ranked minorities’ position on a variety of indices, including nutrition, health, education, and other factors, at an abjectly low level. 

The government’s response to these findings was the 15-point programme, which established criteria for targeting minorities in initiatives and policies. Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) – Provides services such as better supplementary nutrition, immunisation, health check-ups, and free schooling to children and pregnant/lactating women from minorities and those living below the poverty line in India.Improving access to school education – In villages/localities with a significant minority community population, implement different government programmes such as the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya plan.

Minorities was announced in June, 2006

In June of 2006, the Prime Minister launched his New 15-Point Plan for Minority Welfare. It stipulates the implementation of a post-matric scholarship scheme for deserving students from minority populations.Under Section 2 (c) of the National Commission for Minorities Act, 1992, Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, and Zoroastrians (Parsis) have been designated as minority communities. 

Scholarships will be distributed among the States/Union Territories based on the population of the above-mentioned minority in the States/Union Territories as of Census 2001.Modernizing Madarsa Education Establish a foundation of educational infrastructure and resources for Madarsa education modernisation. Scholarships for deserving students from underrepresented groups.The Maulana Azad Education Foundation is working to improve educational infrastructure.Self-employment and wage employment for the underprivileged. 

A portion of the Swarnajayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana scheme should be set aside for minorities.Technical training for skill enhancement . Open new ITIs in locations where minority communities predominate, and upgrade existing ITIs to ‘Centres of Excellence.’Credit support for economic activity has been increased.State and federal government recruitmentEquitable share in rural housing scheme.

Post Matric Scholarship Scheme for meritorious Students

The goal of this programme is to provide scholarships to deserving students from economically disadvantaged minority communities in order to improve their access to higher education, boost their rate of completion, and increase their employability. The scholarship will be provided for study in a government or private higher secondary school, college, or university in India, including residential institutes that are qualified. 

It also covers technical and vocational courses in NCVT-affiliated Industrial Training Institutes/ Industrial Training Centres for Classes XI and XII. Scholarships will be given to students who received at least 50% or equivalent in their previous final exams and whose parents/guardians earn at least Rs. 50,000 per year.Actual financial help will be provided for entrance and course/tuition fees, as well as a maintenance stipend.
