A Brief Notes on Global Refugee Forum

The global Refugee Forum was held to discuss the countries’ reactions to the global refugees. The United nation’s High Commissioner of Refugees, Filippo Grande along with his cabinet was increasingly worried regarding the overwhelming growth of refugees in the world which had crossed 30 million in 2019. 

The Global Refugee Forum’s meeting is collectively held by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the United Nations Refugee Agency, and the government of Switzerland. It is said that the Global Refugee Forum will hold its meeting every 4 years to keep track of the reaction of the countries to the refugees. 

MEETING OF GLOBAL REFUGEE FORUM:

1st Global Refugee Forum was held on 17th December 2019 in Geneva, Switzerland. It was attended by 3000 members and had over 75 events and exhibitions. 1400 undertakings were taken into consideration at the meeting. There was positivity all around the media and were given positive comments. They opened up support platforms and held around 10 events in Geneva. They also launched a digital platform for the Global Refugees Forum. The aims of the 1st meeting of the Global Refugee Forum are:

• To take an equal part in responsibility and be liable.
• Department of education.
• Job opportunities and a good livelihood.
• To resolve the problem of infrastructure and energy.
• The ability for protection.

As the Global Refugees Forum meeting will happen every 4 years, the tentative date of the second Global Refugee Forum would be 2023. It is held it meeting every 4th year because it subsidizes them, helps to gain proper knowledge in the technical area, and helps in reaching the aim of the Global Refugee Forum. The second Global Refugee Forum will lead to moving forward towards the achievement of the goals of the forum. 

GLOBAL COMPACT ON REFUGEES:

Global Compact on Refugees refers to a contract that is made among countries worldwide and this contract is prepared under the supervision of the United Nations. This gives us a better result on the reaction of the world to the wants of the refugees. The United Nations General Assembly passed the resolution for the compact on the 17th of December 2018. 181 nations gave their vote in favor, the United States and Hungary gave their vote against the compact, and Eritrea, Libya, and the Dominican Republic refused to vote. The meeting of the Global Compact of Refugees was a very crucial moment which was experienced by Filippo Grandi, a worker for refugees in her 34 years of career. The international contract was called ‘Historic’, ‘Wonderful’, and ‘an impressive achievement for multilateralism’ by Louise Arbor, a special person representing the United Nations in terms of migration that happens internationally. 

The major objectives of the Global Compact of Refugees are:

• They remove the tension which comes from the country hosting the meeting.
• To improve in making the refugees independent so that they can help themselves.
• It also permits the third country to come in between and give suggestions and also to help in finding out the solution.
• Getting great support from the country in which they were born or ran away will help in safeguarding honor and safety.

As we have come to know how important the Global Refugee Forum is in helping the refugees from all over the world as this includes the support of every country in the world. The meeting that was held was very much important as it laid down 1400 undertakings which were taken into consideration at the meeting. The meeting even takes place every 4th year to keep a track of the reaction that the countries give towards the refugees. The Global Compact of Refugees was also praised by many people who were in the line of helping the refugees and that made the meeting of the Global Compact of Refugees very important that helps the refugees and also helps the country which hosts the meeting.
