Climate Hazard and Vulnerability Atlas

Why climate hazards and vulnerability atlas are important? What are doppler radars? What is IMD? Why did IMD launch these atlas and the doppler radars?

IMD which is the Indian Meteorological Department recently came up with the climate hazard and vulnerability atlas of India. The Indian Meteorological Department also came up with some doppler radars that are put in different areas of the country. This climate hazard and vulnerability atlas have many maps and help in determining the hazards on the atlas of India.  The Indian Meteorological Department came up with this idea in 2022 and made a big advancement in the field of science in India. This atlas has helped in many different ways as it is set up on different kinds of hazards like cold waves, heat waves, droughts, cyclones, floods, fog, wind waves, dust storms, snowfall, and hail storms, lightning, and thunderstorms.

What Is The Indian Meteorological Department

This is a department under the Indian government that checks all the natural processes and hazards in India. Recently, in January 2022 the Indian Meteorological Department provided the climate hazards and vulnerability Atlas of India. And also came up with special types of radars that can be used for a better determination of the weather of different kinds known as Doppler radars.

This has helped a lot in providing information about the various hazards and how a particular district of India is affected by one of the natural hazards.

What Does This Climate Hazard And Vulnerability Atlas Provide?

This atlas provides information regarding risks of natural hazards for every state. These risks can be said to level from nil to low to high to very high. So this atlas will be useful in the future in determining the amount of risk that a particular district has faced.

This atlas also gives information about the population of every city or district and how much of the population is affected by the natural hazards in different vulnerable categories. So it keeps kind of a record of how many lives have been taken because of the natural hazards over the past years.

What Are Doppler Radars?

The Indian Meteorological Department has introduced special types of radars for a better forecast of the weather. Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, and Leh, these respective districts have been enlisted to have these radars. These radars help in getting accurate information about the weather to help determine the climate hazard and vulnerability atlas of India.

The Doppler radars have dual-polarisation technology that will monitor the rainfall in a more detailed way. Doppler radars can also distinguish between the snow, rain, and hail storms which is a very important part of determining the weather for an atlas.

Right now there are 33 radars in India but the Indian Meteorological Department is setting their aim to have 90 radars that can cover the whole country and provide a better weather forecast not only for some districts but for the whole country.

Importance Of Climate Hazard And Vulnerability Atlas Of India

As this atlas provides the information about the hazards, these hazards can be kept in mind, and accordingly, all the economical activities in those areas should be maintained by the government so that many lives are not lost at any cost.

This atlas can also provide information in the future whenever the previous data is to be seen because it will be easily available in the records and with the help of the doppler radars new data can be generated every year to check the increase or decrease in the natural hazards of a particular district or a city.

Importance Of Doppler Radars

Doppler radars are not ordinary radars because with the help of these radars the weather can be forecasted more efficiently. These radars have a special ability to record the weather with the help of dual technology that determines the rainfall level more accurately than the normal radars.

Doppler radars can also distinguish between the weather if it is raining the radar will show the rainfall level, if it is snowing the radar will show that the snow level is high. And similarly, doppler radars can show different types of weather up to 12 kinds. Even heat waves, cyclones, and many other teachers can be detected by the doppler radars.

Conclusion

So, this is all about climate hazards and vulnerability Atlas of India and Doppler radars. These things are taken into consideration to check the weather in a particular district so that respective measures can be performed in the districts. This is an important tool because it is important to take precautions so that lives are not at cost. The more hazardous areas can be vacant so that no one is in danger in these areas.
