Sulphate Examples

Sulphate or popularly known as sulphate is a very important and famous chemical from the sulphuric acid chemical group.

Sulphate is a very important concept of chemical compounds. Sulphate is the most important chemical compound that comes from the family of sulphuric acids. Sulphates are generally salts of sulphuric acid. The sulphate has the empirical formula of SO4-2. Sulphates are the most prominent chemical which is used in industries and they are found mostly in industries. Sulphates are the salts of sulphuric acid and they are prepared from sulphuric acid H2SO4. The examples of sulphate can be seen in everyday life and they occur naturally in nature. There is no one type of sulphate, but there are numerous types of sulphates that are used in the daily life of people. Gypsum or the hydrated calcium sulphate is used to produce plaster and plaster is highly used in the construction of houses and buildings. Iron (II) sulphate another product of sulphate is highly used as a mineral supplement for animals, plants, and soils.

Magnesium Sulphate (MgSO4)

In the previous part, we talked about two main examples of Sulphates, the first one is Gypsum and the other one is Iron (II) Sulphate. Now let’s discuss another example of Sulphate that is Magnesium Sulphate MgSO4. Magnesium Sulphate, also popularly known as Epsom salts, is used in therapeutic baths. Generally, Magnesium Sulphate is a naturally occurring mineral used to regulate lower blood levels of magnesium. Basically, according to chemistry Magnesium Sulphate includes the Magnesium Cation Mg2+ and Sulphate Anion SO-24. Magnesium Sulphate is a white colour crystalline solid which is soluble in water but not soluble in ethanol. The most important utilisation of Magnesium Sulphate is made in agricultural activities to maintain the soil deficient in magnesium. It is used as an essential and effective plant nutrient because magnesium is present in the process of chlorophyll and photosynthesis of plants. Magnesium Sulphate is naturally obtained from natural sources like dry lake beds. After obtaining it from natural sources it goes under various processes where it is made and reacted with other chemicals.

Copper Sulphate

Till now we discussed Magnesium Sulphate which is one type of sulphate That comes under the Sulphate chemical. Now let’s talk about another example or type of sulphate widely used in the daily life of people which is Calcium Sulphate. So, calcium sulphate is an inorganic compound also known by the formula name CaSO4 and calcium sulphate is connected to the hydrates. Calcium Sulphate is used in the making of Gypsum and gypsum is used in the production of plaster or popularly known as the plaster of Paris. Plaster of Paris is the most important ingredient in the construction of buildings and houses, plaster of Paris is very hard, it is a white solid that is hardly soluble in water.

Sodium Sulphate

Now, let’s know about another salt made from Sulphates, that is Sodium Sulphate. Sodium Sulphate is also popularly called the Sulphate of Soda. Sodium Sulphate has a formula of Na2SO4 and it is an inorganic compound. All versions of Sodium Sulphate are highly soluble in water and they are of the white solid structure. Well, there are widely three forms of Sodium Sulphate. The first one is decahydrate sodium Sulphate, the second is heptahydrate Sodium Sulphate which is rarely seen in the market and the third form is the Anhydrous Sodium Sulphate. The decahydrate sodium Sulphate is widely used in chemical industries such as it is used as an ingredient in the making of clothes washing detergents and also used in the paper Industries.

Conclusion

This article had majorly dealt with the most important examples of sulphates. Three examples of sulphate that are Sodium Sulphate, Magnesium Sulphate, and Calcium Sulphate details, definitions, and examples have been briefly analysed and studied in this article. Sulphates are formed from the salts of sulphuric acid.
