Sodium phosphates

In our lives, we come across multiple salts. This given topic calcium phosphate is one of the crucial salts that we come across. The article is talking about the same salt. What is the salt Sodium phosphate is? What are the general uses of this salt? What are the crucial properties which this salt carries with it?

Chemistry consists of many different compounds which have different properties, according to the type of chemical present in them, and so sodium phosphate is a very popular compound in chemistry. The other name of sodium phosphate is phosphorus soda. Sodium Phosphate is often used as a cleaning agent.

Sodium phosphate is one of the most popular compounds in chemistry, and this compound is used in many various processes from household to industrial use. There are many different uses of sodium phosphate in pharmaceutical companies. Follow the article to get more relatable information about the given salt of Sodium Phosphate.

Producing Sodium Phosphates

In chemistry, we come across multiple salts in everyday life and one of which is the salt Sodium Phosphate. If you want to prepare a compound like sodium phosphate, then some specific procedures are needed to be followed if the salt (sodium phosphate compound) is to be obtained. The formation of Sodium phosphate can be done by phosphate rocks that are purified. Then that rock is reacted with sulphuric acid to obtain phosphoric acid.

Once the phosphoric acid has been obtained, then this obtained acid is purified, and after the purification process the acid is reacted with another compound which is known as sodium hydroxide, then after the whole reaction is completed, we will get the final product which will be sodium phosphate. The formula of sodium phosphate is Na3PO4

Properties (Chemical and Physical)

The physical Properties of sodium Phosphate are given below:

  • The salt of sodium phosphate is odorless when

  • Sodium phosphate is white in appearance, amorphous in nature, or a crystalline powder.

  • The covalently bonded unit of the sodium phosphate is 4 units.

  • The sodium phosphate has a complexity of 36.8.

  • This salt compound can also accept 4 hydrogen bonds.

  • The sodium phosphate is also soluble in water.

The Chemical Properties of  sodium Phosphate are given below:

  • The compound of the sodium phosphate reacts with the hydrochloric acid which is also known as (HCL), and after the reaction 2 products are formed, which are named sodium chloride and phosphoric acid. The reaction of the whole process is

Na3PO4 + 3HCl → H3PO4+ 3NaCl

  • The compound sodium phosphate also reacts with the compound calcium chloride in the present to form sodium chloride and phosphoric acid. The reaction is

Na3PO4 + 3CaCl2 → 6NaCl+ Ca3(PO4)2

Uses

Some uses of  sodium Phosphate have been mentioned below:

  • It Is used after the surgery of glaucoma; it is a very mild laxative.

  • It helps in the stimulation of the empty gallbladder.

  • It has been used as an antitypical comic.

  • One of the very often uses is of controlling the pH of the water in the water hardness precipitation.

Conclusion

As has been mentioned above, the salt, Sodium phosphate is the most popular compound in chemistry, this compound has multiple uses in the processes from household to industrial use. There are many uses of sodium phosphate companies in the pharmaceutical industry too. The few uses of salt are in cataract surgery, (post-surgery), as an antitypical comic, controlling the pH of the water hardness. Another name for the salt sodium phosphate is “phospho soda”. It can also be used as a cleaning agent. This salt can be also used as oral medication when a person suffers from constipation, this salt works as a medicine for that person. If the level of phosphate in our body is low then that can lead to symptoms of hypophosphatemia.
