Introduction
A packet sniffer, also known as a packet analyser, protocol analyser, or network analyser, is a hardware or software component that monitors network traffic. Sniffers examine data packet streams that pass between computers on a network, as well as between networked systems and the greater internet. The packet sniffer will catch any incoming or outgoing data addressed to other devices and save it for further study.Â
- A network packet sniffer can filter out critical data, resulting in data or personal identity theft, making it a severe communication network security issue. All packets are unreadable to all parties except the destination address when strong encryption is utilised. As a result, packet sniffers have become outdated.
