Introduction
It is an official travel document issued by the concerned state government that allows an Indian citizen to enter a protected zone for a certain time. Citizens of India from outside such states are required to obtain a permit before visiting the protected state.Â
- The ILP document is issued to control movement to certain regions located near the international border of India.Â
- The Inner Line Permit was established by the British government under the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873, to safeguard the tribals of the eastern part of Bengal. This 1873 Regulation is additionally referred to as ILR or ILP.Â
- At present, this rule is applicable for some states located in the North-east of the country, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Nagaland.
