The Indian government announced the “Digital India” programme in July 2015 with the goal of enhancing online infrastructure and expanding citizen access to the internet, enabling the nation to advance digitally.
- AADHAAR ENABLED PAYMENT SYSTEM (AEPS): To grant online interoperable financial inclusion transactions at PoS (MicroATM) through the Business correspondent of any bank by incorporating the Aadhaar authentication.
- The National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (ICT): This is aimed at harnessing the potential of ICT in the process of learning and teaching. The beneficiaries of this centrally sponsored scheme initiative are the learners in Higher Education Institutions.
- MYGOV: With the vision of contributing to economic and social transformation of the nation, this initiative ensures the establishment of an interface for a healthy exchange of ideas and views that comprises the common citizen and experts.
- PAHAL (DBTL): to reduce diversion and eliminate duplicate or bogus LPG connections.
- PRADHAN MANTRI GRAMIN DIGITAL SAKSHARTA ABHIYAAN (PMGDISHA): It aims to bridge the digital divide, specifically targeting the rural population
- SMART CITIES: Its aim is to promote sustainable and inclusive cities that offer essential infrastructure and deliver a good standard of living for their citizens.
- ACCESSIBLE INDIA CAMPAIGN AND MOBILE APP: It helps persons with disabilities to have equal access to opportunities, live independently, and actively participate in all aspects of life in a society that is inclusive.
- E-courts: It aims at utilising technology for improved provisioning of judicial services to citizens.
- MCA21: The project aims to provide electronic services to the Companies registered under the Companies Act.
A digital economy is predicted to generate 60–65 million employment by 2025, according to a McKinsey report. The government is well-positioned to take advantage of this opportunity and generate an economic value of US$ 1 trillion from the digital economy by 2025 thanks to the “Digital India” programme.
