Civil Services Day

It is observed on 21st April every year.

Why  21st  April?

  • On the same day in 1947 India’s iron man and first Home Minister of the Independent India, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel gave a speech in Metcalf house to the probationary officers of All India Administrative Services in the National Capital. During this speech Vallabh Bhai Patel referred to all the Civil Servants as “Steel Frame of India’’.

Objective:

  • The main aim is creation of most dedicated civil servants for the carrying out the welfare of the people to the next level for ensuring social, economic, and political justice to the people of India and commitment of civil servants towards the same objective.

Prime Minister Award for Excellence in Public Administration:

  • Presentation: On the occasion of Civil Services Day.
  • Instituted: 2006.
  • Eligibility: All officers individually or as a group or as organisation are eligible.
  • Objective: To acknowledge, recognize and reward the extraordinary and innovative work done by District/ organisations of the Central, State Governments.

IAS Civil List:

  • The Ministry of Personnel introduced the “IAS List 2020” along with its E-version. This dynamic list will help in selecting the right officers for the right task, will serve as a valuable source of information to the public and manning the different posts.
  • In this 65th edition IAS Civil list and 2nd version of the E-list. The list contains comprehensive information about the IAS batch, cadre state, current, posting, pay and allowances, education, and retirement.
  • The DOPT is looking forward to establishing the National Recruitment Agency, for conducting computer based recruitment test, a common eligibility test, for nongazetted posts by establishing test centres in each district.

National Recruitment Agency (NRA):

  • The Union government has already started the process of the establishing of the National Recruitment Agency. This is one of the most awaited reforms in recruitment of the central government departments and smoothening the process of the same.
  • The NRA will conduct the one CET for screening the candidates for the group B and C non-technical posts. The Railways, Finance ministry and its Department of Financial Services, SSC, RRB and IBPS will be presented in this unified body etc. for the same departments NRA will conduct CET at 3 levels including graduation, 12th, and 10th as well as candidates of IBPS.
  • NRA has been allocated more than 15 hundred crore budget for 3-year cycle.
