The integrated rural development program was launched in 1978 by the Indian government and was implemented in 1980. The main vision of the IRDP is to bring employment to those people who are living in poverty so that they can maintain a healthy lifestyle. The schemes have been funded on a 50:50 ratio as per agreements on a state and national basis. This IRDP is the best scheme project to solve the poverty challenges and provide employment opportunities in rural areas.
Overview of IRDP
The IRDP was established to offer employment opportunities for the poor people and the planning is not only required for the subsidies for those communities who live under the impoverished line. The main planning of these programs is to assist them to lead their life in living conditions. The Indian government launched this planning in 1978 and they started to implement the planning in 1980. The goal of the program is to provide impoverished people with the working possibilities and to enhance their skillsets for better living conditions. This program has been considered the best Yojana by the Indian government for addressing the poverty-related issues by offering them essential commodities in parallel with the job opportunities for those who live under the poverty line.
Objectives of IRDP

The goals have been undertaken to supply the population and productive assets from the different sectors such as primary sectors along with the secondary and tertiary sectors. Implementation strategies of IRDP
The IRDP has been implemented for some terms and conditions of the Indian government and through some types of agencies and that is,
- Block staff level at the bottom level of the agencies
- State-level coordination committees in different types of states agencies
- The ministry of urban and rural development has facilitated and the ministry people are responsible for releasing the funds, formation of policies, evaluating the program and guidance
Benefits and Evaluation of IRDP

- To facilitate the financially backward classes with having annual income of less than 11,000
There are subsidies that have been provided under the integrated rural development program and those are, and the Indian government has provided financial institutions with 25% of subsidies for the first target category and the small farmers. The secondary target category has been listed based on the 33.5% subsidy for the rural craftsmen, agricultural labourers, and the marginal farmers.
New initiatives under IRDP
- DWCRA, TRYSEM, SITRA, and GKY will be merged under IRDP
- In order to prosper the group approach, SHG will be formed
- NABARD will formulate pilot projects to accumulate all banking groups and link them with self-help groups (SHG)
- 85% of the population, linked with the project will be rural women
- Promoting multiple credit cards instead of one-time credit injection
- The scheme timeline will be expanded all across India
Apart from that, “family credit plans” will be extended in different districts of India. On that note, the ninth plan is expecting to achieve an investment of Rs.25,000-Rs.50,000 based on the poverty gap and poverty line of the country.
