In the context of sustainable development, the World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (WCDRR) is part of a series of United Nations conferences focused on sustainable development and reducing disaster risk.
- Yokohama, Kobe and Sendai in Japan were the places where the World Conference was held in 1994, 2005 and 2015. UNDER coordinated the Second and Third UN World Conferences on Disaster Reduction in 2005 and 2015, respectively.
- A wide range of stakeholders is invited to participate in these conferences, which discuss ways to manage disasters and climate risks to ensure the sustainability of development.
- In March 2015, the UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction adopted the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (2015–2030). The Hyogo Framework for Action (2005–2015): Building the Resilience of Nations and Communities to Disasters was released in 2005, and the Yokohama Strategy and Plan of Action for a Safer World was released in 1994.
