Coordination of the disaster response and risk reduction are tasks that fall under the purview of the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA). The Authority provides direction and oversight for all mitigation, readiness, response, and recovery actions. In accordance with the rules established by the National Disaster Management Authority, the SDMA approves the State Disaster Management Plan and District Disaster Management Plans.
- Under Section 14 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, the State Disaster Management Authority was established in the State by a government notification on 26th June 2008 headed by the Chief Minister and including eight other members. State Disaster Management Authority is the apex body for disaster management in the state.
- The State Executive Committee, headed by the Chief Secretary with 4 other Secretaries as members, was also set up to assist the State Disaster Management Authority in the performance of its functions.
