About Tungabhadra Dam: Also known as Pampa Sagar Dam.
- 1953: Constructed by Dr. Thirumale Iyengar, a multifunctional dam on river Tungabhadra.
- Significance: It is lifeline for the drought-prone districts of Bellary, Koppal, and Raichur in Karnataka (Known as the rice bowl of Karnataka), and Anantapur, Cuddapah, and Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh.

Why in News?
- A crest gate of the Tungabhadra reservoir, near Hosapete, in Vijayanagara district of Karnataka washed away, raising fears of floods downstream.
