Daily News Analysis ‘PM-SHRI Scheme’: 16 July

About Pradhan Mantri School for Rising India (PM-SHRI):

  • 2022: announced as a Centrally Sponsored scheme initiated by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.
  • Objective: To establish over 14,500 PM SHRI Schools, overseen by the Central Government, State/UT Governments, local bodies, as well as Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS).
  • These schools aim to create an inclusive, welcoming, secure, and enriching learning environment for every student.
  • The scheme runs from 2022-23 to 2026-27, after which States/UTs will maintain the benchmarks achieved by these schools.
  • Selected schools will showcase all components of the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP) and mentor nearby schools.

About Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA):

  • 2018: launched by Ministry of Education.
  • The program aims to ensure that many Indian children receive an equitable, inclusive, and affordable education.
  • Three projects are included in the Samagra Shiksha Scheme: the Teacher Education Program, the Rashtriya, Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.

Why in News?

  • The Education Ministry has halted funds under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) to Delhi, Punjab, and West Bengal due to their reluctance to participate in the Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India (PM-SHRI) Scheme.
