Amir Khusrau
Amir Khusrau (1253–1325) was a mystic, poet, and musician, regarded as the “Parrot of India” (Tuti-yi-Hind).
Cultural Synthesis: His works symbolize the blend of Indian and Persian cultures.
Contributions to Music: He played a key role in shaping Indian classical music and qawwali, and is credited with influencing the development of Hindavi (a precursor to Hindi and Urdu).
Royal Patronage: He served as a court poet under five Sultans, including Jalaluddin Khalji and Alauddin Khalji.
He was the most beloved disciple of Sufi saint Nizamuddin Auliya and remained deeply connected to his spiritual teachings.
He wrote in Persian and Hindavi, composing ghazals, riddles, and songs, blending Persian, Turkic, and Indian influences.
He is credited (though with limited evidence) for crafting new ragas, developing khayal music, and inventing the sitar and tabla.
