Key Findings – Grade-wise:
Grade 3:
- Language:67% could use adequate vocabulary.
- 60% could comprehend short stories.
- Maths:68–69% could sort and identify patterns.
- Only 50–55% could handle basic geometry and operations.
- 50% could perform simple money transactions.
Grade 6:
- Maths: Only 38% could solve real-life number problems.
- 29% could understand common fractions.
- Environment Awareness: 44% could identify natural and social features.
- Only 38% could observe and predict environmental patterns.
- 56% could explain local institutions’ roles.
Grade 9:
- Language:54% could identify key points in texts.
- Maths:Only 28–31% could apply percentages and understand number sets.
- Science:
- ~37% could explain phenomena like breathing, circuits, floating/sinking.
- 34% could distinguish between living and non-living characteristics.
- 37% understood adolescence-related changes.
Concerns:
- Reveals learning gaps increase with higher grades.
- Kendriya Vidyalayas underperformed in Grade 3 maths but did best in Grade 9.
- Indicates need for targeted interventions in foundational numeracy and comprehension.
- Suggests gaps in science conceptual understanding, especially at secondary level.
Why in News?
- The PARAKH RS (Performance Assessment, Review, and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development – Rashtriya Sarvekshan) survey 2025, covering over 21 lakh students in Grades 3, 6, and 9 across India, revealed significant learning deficits, especially in mathematics and language.
