Why in News?
- The Union Home Minister recently inaugurated the National IED Data Management System (NIDMS), describing it as India’s “next-generation security shield” to streamline terror investigations and counter-IED operations.
About NIDMS
- Definition: NIDMS is a secure, national-level digital platform designed for the systematic collection, collation, and dissemination of data related to Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
- Developed By: The National Security Guard (NSG) through its National Bomb Data Centre (NBDC), in collaboration with IIT-Delhi, Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU), and the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
- Vision: It follows the “One Nation, One IED Data Repository” model to eliminate data silos among different security agencies.
- Key Features:
- Historical Archive: Contains a comprehensive database of every bomb blast and IED incident in India since 1999.
- AI & Machine Learning: Utilizes advanced AI/ML tools to identify “signature linkages” between different attacks based on the device’s circuit, explosives used, and modus operandi.
- Predictive Analysis: Helps security forces perform trend analysis and predictive mapping to thwart potential future bombings.
- Interoperability: Integrated with other national databases like CCTNS (Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems) and NAFIS (National Automated Fingerprint Identification System).
