Key Highlights:
- Total Tigers in 2024: 148 tigers recorded across 1,307.49 sq. km of Kaziranga.
- Tiger Density: 18.65 tigers per 100 sq. km, making it the third-highest in India:
- Bandipur: 19.83/100 sq. km
- Corbett: 19.56/100 sq. km
- The increase is credited to the first-ever tiger survey in Biswanath Wildlife Division, where 27 tigers were recorded.
- Eastern Assam Division: Tigers increased from 104 (2022) to 115 (2024).
- Nagaon Division: Tiger population remained stable at 6.
- Method Used: Spatially Explicit Capture-Recapture (SECR) technique with camera traps between Dec 2023–Apr 2024, following guidelines of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) and Wildlife Institute of India (WII).

- Strengthens Assam’s status as a biodiversity hotspot, already famed for the one-horned rhinoceros.

Why in News?
- On Global Tiger Day (July 29, 2025), Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma released a report showing that Kaziranga Tiger Reserve (KTR) now has the third-highest tiger density in India, after Bandipur (Karnataka) and Corbett (Uttarakhand).
