UPSC Post List/Civil Service Jobs

The word “civil service” refers to a sector of government made up mostly of career civil servants who are hired on the basis of their professional ability rather than being appointed or elected, and whose institutional tenure often endures changes in political power. The Union Public Service Commission holds the Civil Services Examination (CSE), a national competitive exam, in India for the recruitment of higher civil services, such as the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, and Indian Police Service.

These services have consistently ranked high on young people’s lists of desired occupations across the nation. The value of software and IT occupations has not diminished despite their popularity. Its format makes it one of the most difficult competitive exams in the nation, with a success rate of only about 0.1 per cent. A growing number of people with professional degrees are choosing positions in the Civil Services. Included in this is the recently popularised course of graduating law.

  • The UPSC CSE test has a total of 180 IAS openings. Over the years, the number has stayed the same.
  • In practically every year, IPS has the most open positions (Indian Police Service). There were 200 IPSC job openings in UPSC CSE 2021 and 219 in UPSC CSE 2020.
  • The website cseplus.nic.in provides information about job openings by state. Students can click here to view the statistics for the cadre allocation for the UPSC CSE 2021 exam.
  • After UPSC CSE 2014, the number of vacancies announced in that exam continued to decline for many years before dropping to its lowest point ever in 2018.
  • The number of openings is once again high but lower than in 2014 due to the inclusion of IRMS in UPSC CSE beginning in 2022.
  • Online access is available for the 2020 service allocation information. According to that information, the minimum rank to qualify for IAS is 79 for the General category, 354 for EWS, 323 for OBC, 510 for SC, 505 for ST, and 761 for the PwD category.
