The Badrinath temple, one of the four most important temples in Hinduism, is also known as “Adi Badri”. Millions of pilgrims visit this holy shrine every year, making it one of the most visited places in India and around the world. Its popularity arises from the fact that it is believed to be the birthplace and childhood place of Lord Vishnu. Badrinath Temple is also known for its natural beauty and nearby attractions like Torvi Waterfall and Parvati Dham Temple. 

 

The Badrinath temple is located in Uttarakhand’s Badrinath town in the Garhwal region of the state. It is one of the Char Dhams- Gangotri, Kedarnath, Yamunotri, and Badrinath are collectively called Char Dham. There are numerous routes to reach Badrinath temple. Pilgrims can travel by bus, travel by helicopter, or travel by train. 

Road route to Badrinath temple

Route 1 

This route takes pilgrims on a beautiful journey of 324 Km, starting from Haridwar. From Haridwar, the route passes through Srinagar, Rudraprayag, Gauchar, and Karnaprayag, finally ending at Govindghat. Picturesque locations like Devprayag and Kirti Nagar and religious places like Shri Badarinath are located along this route.

 

Route 2

This route to Badrinath temple via Guptkashi and Chopta is popular. Pilgrims who undertake shorter routes avoid taking this easy route. Various shrines like Ukhimath, Dugalbitta, Chopta, and Guptkashi are located along this route. 




Route 3 – 

The road route to Badrinath Temple is 247 Km long. There are a total of eleven towns to reach and enjoy en route. The first town Kedarnath is 14 Km away from the temple, and it takes around 2 hours to reach. From Kedarnath, it is a trek of 5 Km to reach Gaurikund, and from there, one can get the first glimpse of the valley and of Badarinath Dham. Then the journey continues towards Sonprayag, which is a beautiful place surrounded by lush green meadows. After that, the next stop is Rampur, which is quite a big town in the Chamoli district. After driving for 9 Km, there will be Phata taking a right turn from that and driving through some villages till reaching Kund. This distance includes 19 Km trekking as well till Agastyamuni, where again you need to turn right after driving for another 8 Km. From Agastyamuni village, drive further for 6 Km till Rudraprayag, then from here, drive further for 20 Km till Gauchar village where there are ample hotel facilities available along with good food options for tourists. And after covering a distance of 131 Km, crossing a few villages, Karnaprayag, Kaleshwar, Jaikandi, Pipalkoti & Arurhi Pururi, comes Badrinath temple.

 

How to Reach Badrinath

  • By Airplane

Jolly Grant Airport is the nearest airport from Badrinath Temple, nestled in Dehradun at a distance of approx 314 Km from the Badrinath Dham. Badrinath is connected to Dehradun airport by regular flights from Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru.

 

  • By Helicopter

The distance by a helicopter journey is approx 100 Km. There are a lot of helicopter service providers from Dehradun to Badrinath.

 

  • By Train

The closest railway stations to Badrinath are Rishikesh, 297 Km, Haridwar, 324 Km, and Kotdwar, 327 km. Rishikesh isn’t associated with fast trains & Kotdwar has an exceptionally less number of trains. Consequently, Haridwar fills in as the best railway station if you’re visiting Badrinath temple by train.

 

  • By Bus

Badrinath is effectively accessible by street. It is situated at a distance of (525 Km) from Delhi & (296 Km) from Rishikesh. Ordinary buses are operating to Badrinath from Delhi, Haridwar, & Rishikesh. You can easily reach Badrinath temple via buses from Haridwar, Srinagar, or Rishikesh.
