JEE Main Exam Pattern

The JEE or Joint Entrance Examination Main consists of 2 papers – Paper 1 and Paper 2. The following is the examination pattern for JEE Main 2022:

1. For Paper 1 (B.E. /B. Tech.), Computer Based Test (CBT) mode will be followed.

2. For Paper 2A (B. Arch), there will be two subtests-

a) Mathematics (Part-I) and Aptitude Test (Part-II) will take place in CBT mode, and Drawing Test (Part-III) in pen and paper, that is offline mode will be followed

3. Paper 2B (B. Planning): there will be two subtests-

a) Mathematics (Part-I), Aptitude Test (Part-II), and Planning Based Questions (Part-III) will take place in CBT mode

4. The medium of the question papers – According to the National Education Policy (NEP), the JEE (Main) – 2022 will be conducted in the following languages-

Hindi, English, Assamese, Gujarati, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Odia, Marathi, Punjabi, Telugu, Tamil, and Urdu.

5. The examination scheme will be followed in the following manner –

a) For Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech.) – (Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry) – MCQ-type and Numerical value type questions will be asked. The tests will be taken in CBT mode only

b) For Paper 2A (B. Arch) –

i) Mathematics – MCQ-type and Numerical Value type questions in CBT mode will be conducted.

ii) Aptitude Test – MCQ-type questions, CBT mode will be conducted.

iii) Drawing Test – Pen, and Paper Based offline mode will be followed.

c) For Paper 2B (Planning) –

i) Mathematics – MCQ-type questions and numerical value type questions in CBT mode will be conducted.

ii) Aptitude Test – MCQ-type questions, CBT mode will be conducted.

iii) Planning and based test – MCQ-type questions, CBT mode will be conducted.

6. The examination pattern is as follows –

Note: 

  • Section A contains Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and Section B has numerical value type questions
  • For every correct response, +4 marks will be given
  • For every incorrect response, -1 marks will be deducted
  • For every unanswered response, 0 marks will be given
  • In section B, candidates need to attempt any 05 out of 10 questions. There will be no negative marking for Section B. For every question, the candidate has to enter the correct integer value of the answer. The answer needs to be rounded off to the nearest integer
