POLICE Full Form

Police stand for Public Office for legal Investigations and Criminal Emergencies. It is a combined body of personnel empowered by the state to enforce civilians’ law, health, and possessions and prevent criminal activities. They have laws in which they can arrest and use the force sanctioned by the state by the monopoly on violence. This term is commonly valid to the police forces of a monarch state that are approved to exercise the power of police in the state within defined legal and territorial areas of duty. 

What is a Police?

Police forces are soldiers apart from the military and other associations involved in defending the state and civilians against foreign. Law enforcement is a part of policing activities. Policing activity has included various activities in various situations, but the chief is concerned about preserving order. Police or a police force can simply refer to police service, crime prevention, law enforcement, civic guard, constabulary, protective service. They are called police officers, sheriffs, troopers, or civic guards.

History of Police in Modern Era in India

In the world’s second-largest country, India, the police are controlled by their respective union territory or state, also known as State Police Services(SPS).

The aspirants selected for the SPS service are mainly reputed as Deputy Superintendent of Police or Assistant Commissioner of Police once their trial period ends. After their authorized service in SPS, the officers are nominated to the Indian Police Service(IPS). The dress worn by the police of India is known as Khaki, and they wear a service colour which is generally red and dark blue.

In colonial America, the most important law enforcement official was the sheriff. In New York, the sheriff’s office was founded in 1626. First, the country sheriffs were elected in charge of all law enforcement, collecting taxes, supervising elections, and handling the legal or county business.

Police forces consist of both uniformed police and detectives. These terms may vary from region to region. There are various functions police perform, including protection of life and civil property and performing several criminal investigations.

The code of conduct for police departments in the country was adopted in 1960 at the conference of the inspector general. There was a certain code of conduct that was determined in that conference. These codes of conduct are as follows:

• The police officer should always have an exact nature and respect for the constitution of India and should always support and respect the rights of citizens.

• The police officer should not question The authenticity or necessity of any law given in the constitution of India. They should always work for law enforcement without having a paint of fear, vindictiveness, or favour for any kind.

• The police officer should always respect their power and have their limitations. They should not question the function of the judicial system.

• As given in the constitution, the police have a prime duty of preventing crime and maintaining law and order in the country with proper efficiency.

• The police should always promote the welfare of citizens by being ready to offer their services and assistance without any regard to their social or financial standing.
• The police officer should always be well managed and courteous to the citizens, and they should have enormous courage and dignity to cultivate the citizen’s trust.
