AIR Full Form

All India Radio is a government organization, also called with the name of Akashvani from the year 1957. The All India Radio was earlier known as Indian broadcasting company , and established on 23 July 1927. Then the Indian broadcasting company came to. All India Radio is a radio broadcaster in India. Prasar Bharati is the owner of All India Radio. The headquarters of AIR is located at the Akashvani Bhavan building, Sansad Marg, New Delhi. It is the most comprehensive and most substantial radio network in the world. Although it is the broadest radio broadcasting platform, many languages broadcast and represent different cultures. The motto of All India Radio is, “Bahujanahitaya Bahujanasukhaya .”

All India Radio

All India Radio broadcasts its programs in 23 different languages and 179 dialects. Although, the organization primarily launched for domestic purposes. But lately, it has started promoting its programs globally. Its main aim is to spread the incredible culture of India worldwide. Currently, there are 420 domestic stations of AIR situated in India. These 420 stations cover 92% area of the whole country, and 99.19% of the population of India can listen to them. When it first launched on 23 July 1927, the organization was named Indian State Broadcasting Service (ISBS). But, in 1957, its official name was changed to “Akashvani,” which means the “voice from the sky” or “celestial announcement .”In mythology, Akashvani is mainly demonstrated as the future prediction by God. Rabindranath Ji Tagore suggested this name to the All India Radio.

Vividh Bharati

Vividh Bharati is the most popular service provided by All India Radio all over the country. It simply can translate as “Diverse Indian .”Vividh Bharati is also called a CBS (Commercial Broadcasting Service). Vividh Bharati Service was started in 1957 by All India Radio. Vividh Bharati is a top-rated service in Mumbai. It broadcasts news, comedy, music, plays in modern cities of India. Vividh Bharati regulates its programs at different wave-bands and FM frequencies. Some popular programs, which broadcast on CBS or Vividh Bharati:

• Santon ki mehfil: A comedy program from the 70s or 80s
• Hawa-mahal: It is a play based on different novels and famous historical plays
• Chhaya Geet: It is a music-based program where songs are played according to the announcer’s choice

CCU (Central Sales Unit) is the commercial service provided by All India Radio. The headquarter of CCU is situated in Mumbai. It is also called a “Centralised Sales Unit .”Under the Central Sales Unit, all the commercial services like Television networks STB falls.

DTH service by All India Radio

Direct-to-home (DTH) service is a digital service of All India Radio. DTH service is also known as satellite broadcast service. In this service, various radio channels are reached to users’ homes via high-power satellite. All India Radio broadcasts many regional, cultural, and national channels through DTH. Users can listen to these channels on DD Free Dish. DTH signals reached the homes of several users via dish receiver units. In this unit, the dish antenna is fixed at the top of the houses to catch the signals from the satellite. Insat satellite facilitates 21 channels of DTH service. Popular DTH channels:
