The Saraswati Samman is an annual literary prize for outstanding prose or verse in one of India's 22 primary languages, as defined by the Indian Constitution.

The Saraswati Samman would be a yearly literary prize for excellent writing or verse in India’s 22 official languages, as mentioned in Category VIII of the Indian Constitution. It is called after a legend of enlightenment from India. The K. K. Birla Industry provided the Saraswati Samman in 1991. It includes a sum of $15,000, a commendation, and a souvenir. A jury of professors and past prize winners selects contestants from works of literature released in the previous few years. Harivanshrai ‘Bachchan’ received the first prize for the four-volume autobiographical works, Kya Bhooloon Kya Yaad Karoon, Need Ka Nirman Phir, Basere Se Door, as well as Das dwar Se SopanTak.

The Saraswati Samman is a yearly creative prize for exceptional prose and poetry. The significance of Saraswati Samman is it is one of India’s most prestigious literary prizes and is dedicated to the goddess of wisdom.

Saraswati Samman’s Facts

  • The K.K. Birla Institute awards it.

  • It began in 1991 and remains to this day.

The K.K. Birla Institute, a contemporary literary organisation, has established two more prizes, the Vyas Samman, recognizing Hindi compositions by Indian nationals, and the Bihari Puraskar for outstanding Hindi/Rajasthani compositions by Rajasthani authors, in addition to the Saraswati Samman.

  • Shamsur Rahman Faruqi’s Urdu song “Sher-e Shor-Angez” was released in 1996.

  • Kurukshetra by Manubhai Pancholi was released in 1997. Gujarati—

  • Shankha Ghosh’s “GandharbaKabitaGuccha” (Poetry Collection) was published in Bengali in 1998.

  • Indira Parthasarathy – “Ramanujar” (Tamil Play) – 1999

  • Katha Kaho Urvashi (Novel) by DalipTiwana—Punjabi—

According to a press release issued by the K.K. Birla Institute on Monday, Prof. Ramdarash Mishra, a well-known poet and littérateur, will receive the prestigious Saraswati Samman in 2021 for the collection of poetry “Mein to YahanHun.”In “Mein to Yahan Hun,” the literary giant explores several facets of internal thoughts, societal issues, communitarianism, bribery, human viewpoints, Dalit oppression, unsettling metropolitan environments, seasonal exhilaration, and environmental worries.

Mishra, born around August 15, 1924, in the Dumri neighbourhood in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur area, has succeeded in several fields of poetry and prose. The 98-year-old possesses 32 volumes of poetry, 15 novels, 30 story collections, 15 volumes of literary studies, four compilations of essays, eyewitness accounts, and many memoirs to his name. He was also the chairman of many Hindi consultation groups in various departments, and he resigned from the University of Delhi’s Hindi division.

The Vyas Samman, a literature prize in India first given out in 1991, may be one of a similar literary awards. The K.K. Birla Institute bestows it yearly with a cash prize of Rs 4,00,000. To be eligible for the prize, the work of literature must be written in Hindi and published within the last ten years.
