Ribosomes were discovered by George Palade. Also referred to as "An organelle within an organelle". This is so because they are not only found in cytoplasm but 70s types are found in mitochondria and chloroplasts as well. They help in synthesis of proteins. They may be free or attached. 70s type are found in prokaryotes while 80s types are a feature of eukaryotes.
