Akbar (1556-1605) -Battle of Panipat in 1556 between Akbar and Hemu. -Bairam Khan acted as his regent. - He married the Rajput princess, the daughter of Raja Bharamal. Raja Bhagawan Das and Raja Man Singh were given senior positions. Ranas of Mewar continued to defy. - He abolished the pilgrim tax and later the jiziya.
Religious Policy He abolished the pilgrim tax. Ibadat Khana (House of worship :Fatepur Sikri. Promulgated a new religion called Din I ilahi. Land revenue system of Akbar was called Zabti or Bandobast system Polaj (cultivated every year), Parauti (once in two years),Chachar (once in three or four years),Banjar (once in five or more years)
Mansabdari System Every officer was assigned a rank (mansab) - The ranks were divided into two - zat and sawar. Every sawar had to maintain at least two horses.
Jahangir (1605-1627) - Prince Salim succeeded with the title Jahangir (Conqueror of World) in 1605. - Guru Arjun, the fifth Sikh Guru, was beheaded - Jahangir married Mehrunnisa who was known as Nur Jahan
Shah Jahan (1627-1658) His Deccan policy was more successful - Carved four Mughal provinces in the Deccan - Khandesh, Berar, Telungana and Daulatabad. Died in 1666 and buried beside his wife's grave in Taj Mahal
