  5. contd.. . India opposes any formal docking of China's Belt and Road Initiative with the BRICS. But India would have no problems in supporting individual bankable projects that are not formally declared a part of the BRI. . 6. Sept 3, 2017 NEWS Tigers to make a comeback in Buxa reserve . Tigers will roar again at Buxa Tiger Reserve in West Bengal. Located in Alipurduar district, the reserve, parts of which border Bhutan, has been identified for the tiger augmentation programme by the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA). Buxa Tiger Reserve Buxa tiger reserve . Notified as a tiger reserve in 1983, Buxa consists of moist, deciduous and evergreen forests. The tiger reserve has an area of about 757.9 sq km, of which 390 sq km lies in the core area and 367 sq km in the buffer zone West Bengal . A number of tea gardens are located on the periphery of the reserve. . The Buxa reserve is home to smaller cats such as leopards which occasionally surface in the tea gardens nearby. . There are also common clouded leopards, jungle cats and fishing cats. The herbivore list includes elephants, Indian gaur, chital, sambars, barking deer and hog deer.

  7. contd.. Where will tigers come from? . The Sunderbans in south Bengal is home to about 100 tigers. Experts have consciously decided not to augment tigers in the Buxa reserve from the Sunderbans, a completely different mangrove ecosystem. Instead, tigers from the forest reserves of Assam, which have a similar flora and fauna, will be introduced in Buxa. . The reserve is located very close to Assam's Manas Tiger Reserve, and some experts believe that animals from Manas often come to Buxa using Bhutan as a corridor. What are the challenges? There is human habitation in the area. The people residing in the villages mainly work at the tea plantations. In an attempt to mitigate the human versus animal conflict, the Forest Department has started awareness s in the villages before in g the tigers. . Another major challenge at Buxa is the broad gauge rail line passing through the reserve, connecting Siliguri and Alipurduar. Over the past few years, a number of elephants and other animals have died, having been run over by trains. Wildlife enthusiasts have another reason to cheer as the Eastern Circuit Bench of the National Green Tribunal has directed the State government to close all tourist accommodations in the Buxa reserve.

Mumbai's monsoon is marked by a building collapse almost every year, but residents in 17,000 unsafe structures in the city who have received a municipal evacuation notice are not ready to move out. Attributes responsible for such situation . A major factor is location: the transit camps tend to be far away from the original homes. . Mumbai has many buildings over a century old. Not all are in bad shape, but many have been neglected by their owners and are visibly decrepit.

  9. contd.. -State law makes it impossible for owners with old rent agreements to increase rents from the paltry amounts fixed decades ago or to get tenants to vacate, or even sell the property without compensation for tenants. They do not trust the government, the owners, or the builders who have won redevelopment contracts. Some relocated families have been in transit accommodation for a decade, facing uncertainty over possession of a redeveloped house. What's the way forward? This government is committed to giving justice to tenants. We have taken up steps such as implementation of Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) to keep a check orn builders. . We want to assure that we will soon come up with comprehensive plan which will speed up the process of redevelopment of old buildings.

The country's key economic statistics, particularly high-frequency indicators such as the index of industrial production, could become far more dynamic in the years to come, thanks to the introduction of the Goods and Services Tax- which requires all producers above a certain threshold to register and file returns online, Pointing out that the Annual Survey of Industries estimates were often released with a lag of two years, he suggested such delays could perhaps be avoided, going forward. "All of this changes as we move towards more online governance systems, with faster reporting. These...create possibilities for the statistician." The frames under which IIP and most industrial statistics are compiled, is based on... the registration systems followed under the Factories Act a decentralised mechanism with different States maintaining different registers. What were the issues before GST? . Earlier, registration and other governance systems were often decentralised and largely paper-based, making the updating of databases a time-consuming exercise
