Recently, the Ministry of Culture organized “TirangaUtsav” -an evening filled with cultural and musical performances to celebrate the contributions of PingaliVenkayya to the nation on the occasion of his 146th Birth Anniversary in New Delhi. 

Statements 1 and 2 are correct: Pingali Venkayya was a freedom fighter and the designer of the Indian National Tricolour who went on to become synonymous with the spirit of free and independent India. The national flag that we see today was based upon his design. 

Statement 3 is correct: His life and contribution to the freedom struggle have been barely documented. Born on August 2, 1876, in the Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh, Venkayya served as a soldier in the British Army in South Africa during the Anglo Boer war in Africa. A firm believer in Gandhian principles and an ardent nationalist, Venkayya met the Mahatma during the war. 

He was 19 when the meeting took place and formed an association lasting more than 50 years. After his return from Africa, Venkayya spent most of his time researching farming and cultivating cotton. He even studied Sanskrit, Urdu and Japanese in the Anglo Vedic School in Lahore.

Option (C) is correct:  The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has recognized more than 75,000 startups- a milestone which coincides with the 75th year of independence. 

Out of the total recognized startups, around 12% cater to IT services, 9% to Healthcare and Life Sciences, 7% to education, 5% to professional and commercial services and 5% to agriculture. An impressive, 7.46 lakh jobs have been created by the Indian startup ecosystem, so far, which has been a 110% yearly increase over the last 6 years. Option (A) is correct: Indian Oil signed an MoU with National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) for the transcontinental relocation of the ‘Cheetah’ in its historical range in India. Indian Oil is the first corporate which has come forward to support “Project Cheetah” under CSR, as the project has not only national importance but is also essential for balancing the ecosystem. Cheetah has a very special significance for the national conservation ethic and ethos. Understanding this, Indian Oil is aiding the cause of bringing the Cheetah back to India, which would have equally important conservation ramifications. 

Cheetah restoration will be part of a prototype for the restoration of original cheetah habitats and their biodiversity, helping to stem the degradation and rapid loss of biodiversity. Former Nepal prime minister K P Sharma Oli has claimed that he was removed from power last year after his government published a new map of Nepal that included Kalapani, Limpiyadhura and Lipulekh as its territories. The Lipulekh pass is a far western point near Kalapani, a disputed border area between Nepal and India.
