India has been the colony of the British for 200 years, but the British are not the first Europeans that have an adventure in India know it. Portuguese are the first to land in India. Vasco da Gama is the first Portuguese that came to the Calicut port to deal with the spices of India.Vasco da Gama got major profit after selling Indian spices in the market of their country and to see him become major profitable the other merchant was influenced and came to India for further profitability, which worked for that country. After listening to the news of business with India and other foreign communities, such as -Francis, Dutch, British people were coming to India to establish their business. First Business was the main requirement of these communities but after that, they slowly conquered India to enhance the economic profit of their country along with governance over it.
The European community those who advent India
In the medieval era, India was the destination of trading and it was termed the “golden bird”. This matrix attracts the Europeans to settle down along with major trading to increase the profitability of their country. Sea route was the major requirement of the European people at that time to come to India and trade. Vasco da Gama first came to the Calicut area to further proceed with the dealing of spices and at this time, he was concerned with the local king Zamorin for managing his trading process (1498). He also set up a trading factory in Cannanore and in this way; the power of the Portuguese was rising. When talking about the British East India Company, they first came to India in the era of Jahangir and his court, they tried to seek permission for further trading in medieval India. From the east, the British in terms of constructing trading factories in those areas captured the south, and west of India. The Dutch have first established their factory in the Andhra Pradesh area of India and even further proceeded with their coin for trading development. French and their trading growth are still reflected in the area of Pondicherry.
Some significant factors that led to the European advent
Most of the time it was observed that the Europeans established their trading factory beside the bank of any river because they come on the river route and after getting profit it will be highly effective for them to flee with the wealth from the water route again in a very less time. India is famous for developing agro-based products, such as cotton, or handicraft products for the convenient weather and if this tried to be manufactured in the European country, the cost will become the highest, but whether they export those from India, the profitability and the productivity both will favor them. Medieval India was also famous for its spices and most of them were used as preservatives or antibiotics in the European countries at a reasonable price if they exported those from India and the authority of the medieval Indian community was very friendly at that time. Hence after getting permission from them there is no problem of business expansion that is faced by the European community.
Consequences of advent India by Europeans
First, trading is the focus of the Portuguese, and rather than increase the per capita income of India the foreigners are increasing their economic profitability. The 200 years of British rule and the damage that is still faced by India are the major consequences of the European advent. The demand for spices was increasing at that time in Europe; hence more people joined the trading process with India through the sea route. Every perspective is associated with benefits and drawbacks.
Conclusion
In 1498 first Portuguese came to trade with India because they are famous for their spices or handicraft. After watching their profitability trading with India the other European Dutch kept steps in the Indian land for business, but after them, the British came to trade along with rule India for nearly 200 years and that was not acceptable for Indians. Several wars or treaties have assisted this but the scars of 200 years of British rule are still clear on the economy or politics of India.
