Choosing a Similar Figure

Similar figures classification aids in enhancing the identification through the utilization of various similarity concepts and will further benefit in increasing the problem solving skills

Introduction

Two figures are considered to be similar if they have identical shapes. In other words, if the corresponding angles are considered congruent, the ratio of side length is equal. It states that the identification of figures helps in selection of identical figures with specific similarities. It further states that the process of identification is done by seeing similarities in shapes, patterns, lines and trends. It also assesses the candidate’s ability to critically think and compute similar figures by excluding the odd one out.

Similar figures: discussion

Similar figures can be considered as an enlargement of the figure by stating various similarities. They are said to be similar if the angles of the figures are the same irrespective of its sides, the length ratio of its sides need to be identical and the shapes should be the same. It is stated in case of two figures the angles corresponding to both the figures should be the same for example if there is an angle (a) in figure 1 and angle (b) in figure 2 then it implies that angle a should be equal to angle 2 which concludes that the figures are identical. Similarly in case of figure length let’s say the one side of figure 1 is x and another side is y, whereas in figure 2 one side is a and the next side is b then in order to state the similarity the ratio of figure 1 must be equal to ratio of figure 2. This implies, figure 1 ratio is x/y and figure 2 ratio is a/b and they must be the same which proves that the figures are considered to be sane.

Similar figures: categorization

There are a few categories by which similar figures are detected out of which it states 3 main categories. Those are identical shapes which signify that if figure1 is in geometric shape then figure 2 has to be in geometric shape which further concludes the similarity. Similarly, if figure 1 states that their angles are adjacent then angle of figure 2 should also be adjacent this implies the similarity uniting these two figures. According to the side length ratio, the ratio being calculated by considering the sides of figure 1 should be identical with the ratio being evaluated considering the length of figure 2. This will ultimately help in improving the similarity areas and provide a better result.

Similar figures: Importance

Classification is important because it aids in identifying the candidate’s approach of detecting the similarity by uniting the figures. It also states the significance of specific criteria used in the classification process of paired figures. It further states the similarity area which needs to be focused on while analyzing the identicality of the figures. Similar figures signify three types of similarity in case of two figures that are angle-angle similarity, which states that the angle of the first figure and angle of the second figure must be the same. Second type would be side angle side which signifies that the sides of figure 1 and figure 2 and their respective angles are the same which shows the similarity between the figures. Third and last one is the side on side similarity which implies if the side of figure 1 is supposed a then the side of figure 2 must be a in order to show the similarity.

Conclusion

A similar figure states the relations between the figures by stating the similarity uniting the figures. The figures are being observed by analyzing the shapes of each figure and separating the similar figures aside by excluding the odd one out. It is concluded that the process of identification of similar figures needs to be approached in a systematic way to obtain a final result. It can be further concluded by effectively analyzing the similarity and can assist in enhancing the skills of the candidate to solve efficiently. Thus, it can be said that detection of similar figures can improve the working in a specific area of solving the problem based on reasoning related to similar figures.
